For those of you who do station trading I was wondering how many items you traded and what kind of profits you're making. Myself I am trading about 5 items and updating my prices about once a day to make maybe 1-2m profit a day. Yeah I know it isn't much just building up my capital up so I can move onto some other items as well.

Right now I'm feeling lazy so only 1 (my best item). I've done up to 100 in the past but that led to burnout and an eve break so I've decided it was better for my sanity to only trade in 10 or fewer

The danger of trading in only 1 or a few items is that markets are volatile. Competitors could step in, or the items can be nerfed (y-t8 anyone?). It's all about evaluation, i suggest trade in a largish number of items (10+ at least), look at the profit figures at end of the month and adjust.

As many as you can. "Back then" i used to be trading about 30-40 items at once but then i didn't have too much money on me (about 3-5b) and a lot of "spare time" (spare enough to checkup on orders often).

I'm trading in about 50 items at multiple locations. If one doesn't go well I drop it and search for a more profitable one, if it goes well I keep it. This leads to a steady and secure income and makes you less victim of market ups and downs. And I'm updating my orders every 2-3 days because I avoid too popular markets.

I have 269 order slots and used to max them, in a margin trading, fast turnover fashion.
Never again.

Well I've got about 300 orders managed between 4 characters on 2 accounts. Eventually I'll have probably around 1,200 orders managed between 6 characters on 2 accounts.
*shrug* if you do it manually using the client UI then yes you'll want to shoot yourself. If you program, or use an existing program, a helper application that tracks your inventory, open market orders, purchase prices of inventory, current minimum & maximum sell orders for station/system, current minimum & maximum buy orders for station/system, perfect refine value & production costs for BPOs.
I've got one that I wrote myself, and that I really need to update, that tracks the markets and IMs me when my orders are no longer competitive, when someone is selling below refine value or if there is a useful profit buffer between my lowest acceptable sell price & the lowest sell order.
Still a bit tedious but not nearly as bad if I had to do it manually. Though it could be improved.

Serene Python I'm kinda like you. Currently i'm trading 35 items in 3 different areas as you get more capatial it becomes easter to trade more things. Get the skill that reduces how much you have to put in escrow. It will free up a ton of isk for you and allow you to handle more items.

Well, I count 200+ items with good enough volume, which leaves me with 100+ items with reasonable margin in Jita, this is more in other systems with lower volume / higer margin like Amarr, which are also profitable. On a quiet day, expect 5% return a day if you're not capped by the number of items you trade (Which won't happen before having multiple billions).

How exactly do you get that kind of information?

The thing about trading a lot of items is that by doing so you more naturally experiment and think of trying other items.
If you do so , you'll find some real cash cows that don't take much maintenance...harder to discover those just by browsing.
The hard part though, is once you know you'll make a little regular money for an order, its hard to ditch it just to keep things simple.

Usually single digits, occasionally up to a couple of dozen, tops. It's good to diversify, but spreading yourself too thin can also be bad. I like to reserve at least 5 order slots for each item type minimum, preferably more. _
