looking for something to do level 4s, maybe some mission busting or worm holes. worm holes are kind of the last priority right now, but something for the future. i can fly HACs and have good shield/gunnery skills, but still need battlecruisers level 5. my skills are really focused around flying things smaller than battleships, so i'd rather get a tech2 or tech3 ship, despite the cost. at the same time i'm looking more for a kind of starter fit. something i can get and add on to as i make more cash. i can't be throwing a lot of faction stuff on there yet.
mainly just trying to decide if i should bother with getting command ships with a month of training, or just save more and go straight to T3. i think either way, T3 is the end goal, but i wasn't sure if the sleippy might be a better/cheaper way to start off.

The Loki is faster to train for, but costs more. The sleip takes longer to train but is cheaper.
Both are not cheap and need faction stuff to be effective imo.

Get the T3, it's a Covops, Logistics ship, Recon thing in one, and more. Great fun, great return on skillpoints time, and you can come back and pimp them once you've found an income you're happy with. Also, reconsider wormholes, c3s can be fast money with you and a friend or 2, and good luck with the nanoribbons. |

^^^ this.
Lokis have to be the most versatile ship in Eve. They are great.
When i venture into WH's with a small gang, i take this:

cool. good info. yea, it'd be a shorter train, even with getting subsystem skills to 4-5.
i have some buddies that are pretty knowledgeable with worm holes, so i'll probably get in there sooner than i made it sound. what about a more solo oriented fit?

If you want to be flashy and versatile... Loki If you want to kill something stupidly fast while tanking it as well as keeping a reasonable amount in your wallet for an easy replacement... Sleipnir
either way id use a Sleipnir

Check your wallet first and plan according.
I would also say t3 for it will be faster to train if you're not "almost there" with sleipnir.
If you're close, then get CS. You get absolutely amazing BC V skill with cheap option to pvp with some other skills that might come handy later.
Also, consider the basic rule: don't fly what you can't lose. With the price of t3 you can lose 2-3 sleipnirs.

Why choose? Get both! My vote is for the Sleipnir first, no I haven't flown it yet (I'm about a week away), but Battlecruisers V is the best long skill I ever trained. You will fly Hurricanes like a space sex god ever after. ...

Edited by: Liang Nuren on 21/10/2010 18:19:35 So I wouldn't recommend either one for doing missions, but the Sleip will work great for mission busting. The Loki probably holds a small advantage in wormholes.

just lvl4 missions: get a vargur/machariel
Loki works fine for wormholing, sleipnir works fine up to C3 (perhaps C4)
Ideally though you want to do your lvl4s in a bs (varg/mach), your wormholing in a loki (in case of solo) or a sleip (in case of small/med gang) and your pvp in a loki/sleip (I prefer sleip over loki in pvp)

I knew I had a fit at home...
[Sleipnir, Mission] Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
Caldari Navy X-Large Shield Booster 10MN Afterburner II Medium Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800 Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II

Medium Core Defence Capacitor safeguard II Medium Projectile Burst Aerator II
Pretty impressive damage and tank. Not impressive range. Like SFX said, I'd rather be in my Vargur...but it seemed fun to dink around in to me.

well, i mean, i fly a vagabond. i used a muninn for level 3s. i like to zip around in small ships. stepping into a maelstrom and watching a ****** BS move, i felt like i died a little inside. i'm a pvp character primarily and atm in pvp i'd pretty much only use a BS for POS bashing and that's more about sheer numbers than individual dps. i'm not about to train for something i'd only use in missions. mission efficiency is less important than having a ship that's fun to fly, has multiple uses outside of missions and still does level 4s reasonably well. |

Well, the Mael is a fat ass, no doubt. But the Vargur feels much more maneuverable than that. And if that even feels too slow, the Mach feels as/more nible than the Sleipnir with triple the range.
That said, I think the Sleip fit I posted is fun. It isn't the most efficient, but it's fun. I still can't see the logic in the Loki though, especially in AC/Vaga-like configurations...there are other ships that do the same thing so much better and cheaper. <3 HAM/Huginn/agile Loki however, and the fleet booster variant.

Originally by: eek amouse i will eventually get a sleipnir but it'll definitely be after a loki, just because of the training time for BC V.
Heh. I actually consider the excuse to get off your lazy ass and finally train BC 5 one of the best arguments to go with a Sleip. Yeah, it's kind of a long skill but good god is it worth every second. The fact that it also opens up CSs is gravy.

Sleipnir, Claymore (and Nighthawk) used to be the gank magnets in PvP. Then T3 rolled around and since then, they've become nicer to use and much less painful to lose (compared to the other T3/faction bling).

For C3s, just use 2 Pithii a-type shield boosters, a dread sb amplifier, t2 invuls...and make it permarun with cap mods. It'll run every C3 plex even if you accidentally trigger all spawns at once. It's also a lot cheaper than using a faction med/large booster.
Use 425mm cause you need the range... _______________

Edited by: Redshift XIII on 25/10/2010 01:00:16 Edited by: Redshift XIII on 25/10/2010 00:56:35 I'd just like to chime in that I use an AC Sleipnir to solo C3 WH's - yes, even the triple BS spawns. In fact, I specifically chose it over a solo Loki (I can fly both). It works fantastic - the only complaint I have is that it's falloff is a little too short to really burn through the sites as fast as I'd like to.
However, for Lvl 4 missions alone - I would definitely go with a Mach. No doubt about it.

well, i started doing level 4s with the loki. went with 2 pith b-type boosters + the amp and it's hilariously over tanked and fun. can't wait to take it in C3s. |
