Little bit of back story:
I started as a full caldari pilot and got tired of mission out on kills in small and large fleet pvp because of "missle lag" so I trained up hybrids, then got bored of Caldari and trained up Gallante ships. Now I was looking for a good/fairly cheap solo pvp ship and seeing as Minmatar are FOTM I figure I would check them out. Got all my gunnery skills up and have Med Artillary AND Med Autocannon skills up to lvl 4. Can not fly Minmatar HACs yet but only need curisers 5 for that. I went and looked around for fittings and most were the nanocane which I believe uses autocannons. A corm member told me he uses artilery. He said generally Long range for 0.0 and close range for low sec.
This is what I don;t understand. Is that correct? All my times spent of the forums and I don't remember hearing anything like that. So for 0.0 solo pvp autocannons or artillery? Also any non nanocane fits would be helpfull.

This is basically correct because in 0.0 you are likely to fly in a gang and you lose time and DPS while closing up to your targets while your gang mates pound on the enemy. In lowsec there are more opportunities to fly solo so autocannons are probably a better choice.
In order to use autocannons properly you NEED to have the autocannon spec trained so you can use barrage, T1 autocannons are worthless. Arties can be used at tech 1 lvl as long as you dont want to build a sniper setup where you need Tremor as t2 ammo.
Generally, both autocannon and arty setups are worth flying, adjust them as you need for your gang/solo work. Please ensure your signature is within the allowed size of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24,000 bytes. Navigator |

Ok...so if I am looking for solo pvp in 0.0 autocannons would still be a good choice? But keep arty for small gang/large fleet?
Also I have Med auto and arty spec to lvl 4. The OP was an oversight sorry.

There will be a few that disagree but you will find that what you write above is the general consensus. If you try solo with arty i find it really hard to dictate range unless im in a rapier, but the problem is then you lack dps. Most minny ships excel at point blank range autocannon goodness as they have to speed to get in quickly, only thing i have problems with is blasterboats, but they dont seem to be that popular atm and it can be countered to a degree by fitteing a couple of neuts. Missle boats can also be the bane of a close range minny pilot as your speed and transversal becomes almost irrelevent.
