Edited by: Valandril on 13/10/2010 16:11:12 Obvious trust issues aside. Would there be market for fully automated out-of-game stock exchange system ? To make long story short all shares (as in game items) would be hold on one toon and never leave it (unless removed from market by admin) and people would simply trade virtual ownership over share and guy who owns the share currently gets the dividends, can sell the ownership to other people and so on. Users would have their virtual wallets (automated deposits via API and clerk withdrawals) that they can use for stock trading (simple buy/sell application similar to eve market). Question is - would it be ever used ? Stock exchange is not big in eve so an external app may be overkill for the task (with small volume of traded shares we can bare the hassle of work it takes).

Dunno, there were some systems like that in eve quite-some-time-ago but none that I've heard off recently (or anyone using em).
Sneaky update: they seem to even get some traffic, wonder why more people don't use it ?

Yea and it makes me woner why people still distribute shares the "old way" ? Is it because of clumsy interface ? Too big commission ? Fear of a scam ?

There are no trading fees. You can open an account, test the interface, and evemail me any suggestions to make the inteface better.
I think there is reasonable interest in the Exchange. Read our finacial reports to learn about the Exchange's gross trades.

Yes, people always fear scams, but you need to be more specific of what type of scam you are affraid of.

You misunderstood me, i'm not accusing or pointing fingers but asking WHY it's not widely used by everyone (asking people why they don't use it) and throwing some common reasons in meanwhile (after 8 years as software developer/architect i can't tell an user-friendly interface from programmers one). Because for me it would be logical that everyone and their mother would want to use that system as it's better in every possible way (beside the chance of a scam).

I think BSACSE just doesn't have the visibility it needs to really take off yet. Often it is the less well construed plans that do better here because the controversy drives the thread, and more people are inclined to read threads with more comments.
If Block could get even a few of the most well known frequent posters here to drive new IPO and bond threads to list on the exchange I imagine things would take off pretty quickly. This type of a service needs to be on page one every day all day- the way ebank was always in the news during it's ascent.

I belive it is because bsacse is grown slowly vs to fast like lets say e-bank did, it has allowed us to find bugs and other issues. If bsac was very large when some of them where found it would have effected more people. I feel the exchange is in fact stable and block has a good back up system now that it can now handle many many more users. But Its still good to have a steady growth vs a massive one that would take time away from RL and even cause burn out...
