Hey.
Many of you fearless pilots have flyed to Iceland to see another side of EVE, experience it in real life and party with friends that share the same fun in playing EVE... so I would like to ask those brave pilots about their experience about the hotels and guesthouses in Reykjavik, Iceland. I am planing to go to Fanfest 2011, but I am not shure where to stay/sleep for that time. So wich hotel/guesthouse would you recommend or not reccomend and why?

I cant give you any specifics about hotels/hostels in Reykjavic but I can recommend you the site hostelworld.com. I am not sure if im allowed to link that site here since its out-of-eve. Anyway it gives you a very good list of hostels around the world, just select the town youre visiting, and youre good to go. The reviews given are believable. Found a bunch of good hostels there while I was travelling europe(+5 for amsterdam )

From what I understand Icelandic police frown heavily upon illegal substances, and getting them isn't very easy since everything has to be imported to their island. Don't think it would be a good idea to get arrested over there :P

Below are a list of some guesthouses and hotels you may wish to investigate. I have priced them for you based on checking in on March 23 and checking out on March 27. It should be noted that this was the price as of October 14 at 16:49 UTC
The Capital Inn Guesthouse - 60 GBP, 95 USD or 67 Euro.
Hotel Cabin - 170 GBP, 270 USD or 193 Euro
You can also check Expedia and do a search for hotels in Iceland which will generate quite a few options. It is worthwhile using Google Maps to plot a course from your hotel or guesthouse to the venue itself which is the Laugardalsh÷ll Convention Center located at Engjavegur 8, 104 Reykjavik, Iceland.
From the options above I can tell you that I stayed at the Hotel Cabin back in 2007 and the rooms are quite small and basic but they are comfortable. A lot of players book this location as it is quite close to the venue and it is not too long of a hike to get into the city center.

So, are these the confirmed dates?
I haven't paid much attention, admittedly, but this is the first mention I've seen of any kind of dates, and without those it's hard to start planning. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

From what I've heard, it's actually a fairly good combination: she gets to travel to a strange new place and do all kinds of fancy stuff; you get to geek out like never (or close to it) before. Everyone's happy!

Grand Hotel is the best hotel in Iceland. I stayed there last Fanfest and enjoyed every second of it.

Edited by: Angel HUN on 14/10/2010 17:25:31 There are 3 hotels that I am familiar with:
Hotel Cabin - Small rooms, bring a blanket or sweatshirt or something. What the rooms lack however, the bar and general atmosphere (and proximity to the Venue) are top notch considering the price. ALOT of people at fanfest '09 were here, and we spent alot of time just hanging out at the fairly spacious lobby. No free wifi, but that is common. Free breakfast.
Hilton - Very nice, typical grandiose American-esque style. Price is quite high, but you pay for what you get. It is literally across the road from the Venue and is pretty close to several really good places to eat (Oskur, Red Chili <- Elfvira disagrees here, but thats her problem, the place is pretty good). The bar is very large, and plenty of cabs. The atmosphere is not really as "close" as you would say the cabin is. I'd highly recommend this hotel to traveling couples (especially those with a spouse who doesnt play EVE). This way you arent roughing it with a bunch of drunk spaceship nerds. Wifi is pay only. No free breakfast
Hotel Plaza - Nice rooms, free breakfast, Ethernet cord provided in the room but no free wireless. Price is fairly reasonable, but you will likely make up for that in paying for a taxi to the Venue, as this hotel is right in hte middle of RvK. I'd recommend it for people that are coming to see the city as well as fanfest. It has some amazing restaurants nearby (Fish Market, Nonnis, Red Baron) and there is an Internet Cafe across the street. Probably not your best bet if you want to walk to the venue as its going to be a helluva trek. Otherwise quite a nice atmosphere, bar is very small.
General Tip: As Navigator suggested, Add at LEAST a day or 2 on either end of your trip. This provides for hangover days, and general adaptation to the atmosphere. There is a TON to do in RvK and you are REALLY missing out if you do not go venture out around town. Take some corpies, make it a fleet op.
Also do not eat the rotten pee shark.

At previous fanfests there's the "Sisters of EVE" which include activities in Iceland. This is the link to last years Sisters of EVE schedule.

Hotel Cabin is ok but pretty basic, the rooms are around the size of a pod for that proper eve fanfest experience. It is in walking distance of fanfest though which is nice. Oh and if you do the icelandair package and use to coach to reach the hotel from the airport, this one is the very last one meaning it takes about 2 hours to get there.

Agree with this. And as a general note, confirm with the hotel they actually have your booking or they'll try the good old bait and switch tactic when they double book rooms. Hold your ground. True story as far as Hotel Cabin goes last year.

Interested in this aswell... Icelandair had a package last year for like ~600euros, which included flights there and back, hotel reservations, transportation airport->hotel. Please get those package deals again

Edited by: Jakerion Pahydan on 16/10/2010 10:04:52 Booked Hilton for me, a few days ago for 7700 isk / night - thats less than 50 Euro.... Just checked for FanFest dates, its 9700 now, still a bargain. Its the non-refundable rate without breakfast - but most FanFest visitors do breakfast at Laugardsknolveriskknakkerbrodshol anyway with 'za & beer
And - this might be a pro or con - Lotsa Goons there last time !
... So hoping CCP wont change dates.....
Edit - Book via the hilton.com site, for some reason several booking sited dont have the cheapass rate !

The Visit Reykjavik has lots of info on hotels etc. If you don't mind walking 10 min you might get a cheaper offer. Also if you are ok with hostels, there is one right next to the venue which is fairly cheap and I assume there will be other EVE guys staying there too :) But remember that Iceland is an expensive country no matter what.

Yeah, I heard a pint is pretty expensive in Iceland. Also Irn Bru is a must for hangover cures to continue drinking the next day.

Haha this is a legend, last time have been proposed drugs several times, as easy as anywhere to find some, but don't know if drugs is less expensiv than an hotel room ;) Drugs are bad anyway !
