Posting before reading entire thread, so apologies if thais has been stated previously:
Easy option: get a room at Hilton Nordica, if your clever with fights etc you could save monies by staying longer and getting a cheap rate for the whole of your stay.
Hardcore option: Book flights only, find easy Icelandic girl to shag whilst you are there for the whole of your stay.

I might join next fanfest as i found out that you can¦t do 14 days south sea (i.e. Togo or else) with Ç 1700, i found floating around my bank accout useless (from europe).
And you guys do really spend Ç 5 for a pint of beer?
I can see those Ç going down fast.
Does anybody know from experiance if there will be cheap flight/packages from around Vienna/Munich, and where i can find them?

I assume there will be similar packages like last year FF 2009. Iceland Air flies only from Frankfurt outside of the summer season. So get a connection from Vienna to Frankfurt and you are all set.

Edited by: Rainus Max on 22/10/2010 14:02:07 Stayed at the Loftleidir last year, from the outside looks a tad dated but its an nice hotel about a 20 min walk from the city centre but the first 1/2 of that is essentially open space so you have to travel for food.
Planning on staying at the Hilton or the Grand next year as its right over the road from fanfest and I have a bit more cash in mah pocket this year.
Just need the site and offers to pop up so I can book it! ***HINT HINT***

Regarding iceland ( know nothing about the country, what i intend to change with a visit to fanfest :) )
Is it viable with a week visit to check out those vulcano/thermal area's that are out there ? It isn't exacly a 3e world country... i know :)
Car rental , ( maybe 4x4's ) , anything out there or things to keep in mind ?

we stayed at the hotel vik last year was a bit basic and the bar closes at 11 but is ok to crash at takes 5 minutes to walk to the venue 25-30 min to walk into town my number one tip though is to use the buses they run very regularly up and down the main drag and cost peanuts better then ú10 a shot on taxis i would love to go again next year but finanaces won't allow it :(

Guys, if u are short in moneyz then why not couchsurfing? You get to sleep to the place of a person, and after that she can ask you to accommodate her at your place some time.

have to at least try it, why else go to Iceland?
Wouldn't know about pee, but it tasted like Buckley's cough syrup to me. That, and fish.

No prblem with Frankfurt. I have a daily flight from my home town to Frankfurt. For a premium, of course.
But thanks anyway, i¦ll have a look into this.

I'm not sure why this hasn't been mentioned, but I had a good stay at Reykjavik City Hostel when there. The cinnamon apple raisin barely thing they have for breakfast is rather tasty. Someone else in this thread mentioned Couchsurfing. Thats an awesome site and I've had nothing but good experiences with it.

I stayed at the Grand Hotel. I stayed in the "Newer Wing". We had the breakfast included. It was very clean and modern looking as well as one of the two closest Hotels to the Venue. There are a couple of ways to look at it. If you stay here, it might be a bit more expensive than some other hotels in the heart of the city. This can be good or bad. The pubs in Iceland are open way late. This is cool, but you might find yourself wanting to sleep with a circus raging just outside your window. I always bring earplugs for when it is time to shut the world off. The Hyatt is very comparable I believe and has a more happening hotel bar.
Walks from both of these hotels to the venue is about 5-7 mins. Walking to the heart of downtown, is more like 15-mins. Overall the city proper is not that big and can be done by putting your best foot forward. If you donÆt like this, There are a ton of very nice cabs that can take you hither and thither without much of a wait.
Now if you stay downtown, you will be in the heart of everything, but further away from the venue. Not the place for peace and quiet though. It lean more toward ôon and on till the break of dawnö.
Oh pro tip. If you hang out yackin in the streets till the sun comes up, avoid the nightly bar brawls unless you have a good remote repping gang with you. LOL. My amature drunk friend lost the desto and got separated from the rest of the fleet and got Blobbed! He made it alright but got out in deep structure. I have a lot of funny pics. Take a day off and GO TO THE FRIGGIN BLUE LAGOON!! It is really cool. Check it out online before you go. DonÆt be scared off by bad weather. It is most fun to go in very foul weather. I think it was sleeting when I went. We also hit the ATV tour package that combines the tour with a trip to the blue lagoon. There are right next to one another. This was a blast!
Make sure you try the Brennivin! No other drink tastes quite like it. Or as my friend and I say in the morning, Begin againà with Brennivin!!! Woot!
Anyway I hope you have a blast! We sure as hell did!

Technically snus is illegal in Iceland, and there's a risk that customs will confiscate it and fine you if they find it. They don't seem to bother much with enforcing the ban though and most people slip through with no problems. It's a silly ban, and they know it.
I may or may not have done this three times myself, but I can't comment on that...

Can someone explain me why the event "sisters of eve" is happening on the 25 of march, in the middle of the fan fest?
http://fanfest.eveonline.com/en/events/sisters.aspx
I mean, that is a whole day event, that i would love to go, but attending it means you will definitly lose on full day of events, panels and annoucements at the fan fest :(
I thought more logic to do it one day after the fan fest, or one day before, kind of complementary experience...
Here, i feel like i'll miss some of eve fanfest experience if i join the sisters event...
WHat do you think? What it the same last year?

Its more aimed at Wives/Girlfriends/Husbands/Boyfriends of Eve players to keep them entertained whilst you go giddy on pizza, beer and ccp lectures
If you want to do a big tour or something I would strongly advise you go for an extra day, its well worth it. Basically I did the same last year stayed for a full week and did a couple of tours, got used to Reykjavik and basically had a full holiday.
