Hi there, I'm preparing a new Tengu fit and was wondering if a Flare II would be better than a Rigor I rig for Heavy Missiles.
Rigs: CCC II Rigor II ?? Flare II or Rigor I ??
Thanks in advance

If the target is moving faster than your missiles' explosion velocity, the Flare II is slightly better than the Rigor I (20% > 17.65%). However, the Flare II will give no bonus when shooting slow moving (or stationary) targets. The only time that might really come into effect is if you're shooting a stationary frigate.

Thanks for your reply.
I've noticed that in most missions even with the small elite frigs orbiting at close ranges they rarely go above 200m/s. So I was wondering if anyone has had some experience with this. would the 15% extra explosion speed on the Flare II be more effective then the 10% Explosion radius on the Rigor I.
Does anyone have the formula for the effects of signature radius and target speed on missiles. I've found a old thread 2 years old here:http://www.eve-search.com/thread/901280/page/1 does anyone know if its changed?

Using EFT and a DPS chart is probably the easiest way to see how it 'works'. In general, reduction in signature is functionally the same as expanding explosion velocity - just bear in mind one's '-10%' one's +10%. (Which is why the -15% radius rig, translates to 17.65% more 'effective' explosion velocity - 1/0.85 = 1.1765).
The place where this is different, is if the target's speed is low enough - if explosion velocity/explosion radius < ship velocity/ship signature radius - the explosion radius of your missile will create a cap on the damage.
A 100m explosion radius, against a 40m target will only _ever_ do 40% damage - and less if it's moving. I'd generally tend to go with rigor rigs for this reason, but for your purposes - shooting PvE targets - flares are a reasonable choice. (Although, I'd imagine a Rigor I was considerably cheaper than a Flare II).
