How amny of you have skills in an area that you with you could reassign? We have all been there at the point were we have tried alot of things and have found our niche and hten curse ourselves for putting those skill points into something that will be not used.
Why not have the option to reassign skill points into the skills of your choosing? And to prevent abuse you could only do this one single time ever. This would stop people just playing follow the leader to get uber skills for the ship of the month and would encourage specailization. |

Am I the only 1 who is reasonably happy with his skills? I like the way I trained most of them, although some skills I've trained makes me wonder what mental desease I have (like when I trained mining drones - to lvl 2 ).

i think its a good idea but i think more would have to be done. such as you would have to go to a station with a special facility and have an expensive operation done to move skill points around. that way they can be aranged as needed but it will cost you mucho isk to move your skill points around.

Edited by: Edania on 05/01/2005 20:37:06 personally i wouldnt like to see this, someone with a great mem/int but poor perc/will could pile all the SPs into that kinda stuff then transfer them to perc/will then go back to the int/mem skills thus leaping far ahead of where they should be.

EVE is getting to that 'mature' stage that like many other games, so many balances, changes and race-changes have come in that it will be necessary to enable re-skiling in some form (even if just a one-time thing).
DAOC did it with the release of the 2nd expansion, which changed the dynamic between characters in teams. | Join eve-webring.com to promote your site. |

Well that's not strictly true is it? You aren't being penalized for anything...
Also, I have to say that do you not think that the current setup is a lot more realistic? You can't unlearn things in RL can you....no matter how much beer you drink
I think they have got it right...you would have benefited at some time from all of the skill training you have done...what's the problem ======================================

Yes i am. I am not training as fast as i could be in the areas i've always set out to specialize in.
That thanks to willpower being initially described as the gunnery attribute.
I don't agree with the 'unlearning' thing, i just want to redo my base attribs.
I really don't see any balancing issues with this at all.
Don't you find it odd that the most important decision you make in eve is made on the first day you play?? ________________________________________________________

when I made my char, I put points into charisma, at the time I thought it would pay off
but I regret that choice ever since... Its not enough to succeed. Others must fail. |

I have to agree with the base attribs relocation. I to was fouled when i created my char.. Made a civire cuz i wanted a fighter, as was advertised in the civire's description. Then a bit later they change the skills primary attributes and willpower becomes useless. Its not like i messed up my skills myself. I just followed what was said in the descriptions. And it hapened to be false (infos provided by ccp).
On the other hand, i disagree with the sp reallocation. You chose one day what you wanted to train, now stick with it.

Eve is, unlike some other MMOGs a game where characters have no "maximum level", no finite number of skillpoints or anything to limit a single character's power in such a way. Therefore, this is a pointless idea. If you put skillpoints in science skills but regret it and want more levels in gunnery, then simply train gunnery. Nothing to stop you. Besides, as has been pointed out, as attributes affect training times it would be impossible to calculate exactly how many skillpoints you would get in gunnery skills for X skillpoints in Science, especially since attributes are subject to several factors (starting stat, learning skills, implants, later boosters) and change over time. So, realistically, I can say that this will never happen. Sorry kid.

There is another game I play that recently changed how it handles skills. In the past, in that game what you trained in is what you're stuck with. Then after the release of the new version of their game, they brought in Skill Migration, which allowed you (over a rather lenghty period of time) to unlearn skills and assign those points to another skill which would be applied ASAP.
Unlearning in that game is, however, based entirely on in-game time. (And I have 100+ hours remaining on a few of my skills at it stands). The makers of that game also give players a once a year "fixskills" command, that allows them to completely reallocate.
Now, I'm not suggesting this be copied. I'm just saying I've seen it done, and seen it done well.

Few comments on crappy attributes over the skills. How about having a special slot that allows you to fit one and ONLY one implant that would normally go into another slot. This will allow you to pick ONE attribute that you REALLY REALLY want improved, and stack it with another implant of the same type. So if you have bad memory, you could stack two +3 memory implants in to overcome it. It would be expensive, but would it imbalance things?

Well pointed out potential abuse of this idea Edania. But how about a system by which you could roll back 'useless' skills trained but only get back a fraction. Lets say 50% of the skill points trained to be allocated immediately to other uses. Would anybody still be interested enough if there was a penalty such as this? I might.
And as far as skill allocation is concerned. I agree that there is an inherent problem in a game such as this. Where such an important decision effecting your future outcome so heavily must be made on your 1st day. How about a once in a year opportunity to re-arrange attributes. A Christmas present if you will. I wouldn't mind the opportunity to shave a couple or so points off memory and give them to intelligence, maybe even a point to willpower.
I created this character as a miner not using the custom settings because frankly I didn't know what I was doing. By the time I knew better I was already a few weeks or more into it and didn't want to start from scratch.
