Just a theory, feel free to debunk it:
Currently subscriber numbers are not rising as they used to.
Not from the subscriber numbers I've seen, seems to be continually rising, perhaps there is a bit of a hiccup but overall more people continue to subscribe or run additional accounts.
That is good in that sense that it spares us more lag related problems,
and it helps CCP in not having to buy more new expensive hardware.
Not true at all hardware isn't the sole problem with lag nor would CCP waste money tossing more hardware on what is pretty obviously an issue with SW as well.
It is bad for CCP in the sense that the stream of income does not rise much.
Not true, but in general income never rises enough for anyone.
But all companies want to have financial growth.
That is CCPs challenge.
That and developing the technology, products, etc for the future of their company. It makes little sense to do one thing and only one thing when you have the 'talent' and resources to do more and diversify your products thereby gaining more of the market share.
So CCP is looking into other ways to generate financial growth.
One of those is remapping for RL cash, other sources are Dust and Vampires.
True enough but you leave out the issue that EVE is old and likely takes more time/effort/cost to make updates/patches/expansions/etc than if they simply made a new product without dealing with code/technology where the people who made it are gone etc.
My personal opinion is CCP should concentrate more on the core - EVE with rising subscription numbers due to improved content - and take a bite in the sour apple of buying new and better hardware to deal with the new subscribers.
I'd agree but it isn't going to happen EVE is the cash cow, there comes a point where you optimize the effort to maintain the flow from the cow then either you take the money home and sleep on it, spend it, or reinvest it to make more money.
Also the data doesn't support that polished quality sells better than new content.
