oki i just logged into the test server and tried this char creation wich sucks big time, now will we be able to hold our new looks or are we gonna have to say good bye to characters that we have grown to for 6-7 years?
and i dont care if this has been asked before all you forum kids can flame what you want it only shows how immature you are

You can recreate your original face. It just takes some work.

take some work ? im not even going to try that im not a 3d modeller, should be an option to get it as close as possible without having to do it ourselfes right ?

It is WIP, so don't lose hope yet. Creating a new avatar is a must. There will be a transition period in which you have to do this. If you don't do it during this transition period, you will likely get a randomised new avatar.
EDIT: It is an entirely new system, so how exactly could CCP recreate your face automaticly?

You don't need to be a 3d modeller. I'm about as artistic as a brick, and I managed to create a nice face.

if there wont be an option to get my char as close to my old one as possible then ill just simply leave im not going to try and get attached to a new character, there is noway in hell im doing that

but they should be able to do it shouldnt be that hard, and i have been trying to get close to this chars face for hours and im not getting anywhere close, not possible,
and sure i can probably get a nice face but i dont want a nice face i want the face my char has right now!!!

It would have been nice if they made it so that the settings chosen when creating original portraits could have been applied to the new system as well. I hope I can get close to my current look and maybe updated it a little.

WIP = Work In Progress. What Dest is saying is that the system is still rough and not yet complete, so wait and see what the finished result turns out to be.
I sympathize totally that you don't want to change your avatar, as I like mine too, but you're going to quit the game because you can't get the new avatar to look enough like your old one? Seriously? Maybe Second Life would be a good game to try when you quit, then. It seems like it's a lot more about appearances and image.

no its not alot about that but when you play a char for 6-7 years and all of the sudden it has to change, then your not connected to that char as you were to the old one, it will simply not be the same guy anymore
but yeah lets hope they will bring somthing to it wich will make the new thingy as close to the old chars as possible, if i wont feel the connection to my char like i do now then i see no point in keep playing, i have been loyal to this game for a very long time and that would be the least ccp can do for long term players, implement something to this new system wich makes the char as close to the old one as possible,
but with this new sucky char creation i dont see that being possible, right now i cant get anywhere close to my char not by a mile,

Actually I am looking forward to reinventing my looks as it were. The idea that you're so attached to a picture that you're willing to quit the game over it makes me wonder if you might have a little OCD going on over there.

That makes sense, yah. Just keep in mind that your identity in eve is a lot more than just an avatar. Honestly, when you're chatting with people, the avatar just a tiny thumbnail that you can't even see really well. Your accomplishments, skills, kb, friends, and reputation is what really defines you in-game and they will all be intact.
And who knows...walking in stations (for which the new system is brought in for) should make it easier to get into your character. So what is a negative right now may turn out to be well worth the loss in the end, from an immersion point of view. Time will tell, I guess.

Yeah, it would be fairly hard work to have it automatically try to match your current avatar, and certain items features may not exist in the same fashion as they're going for a less cartoony avatar. As for creating a character that looks like yours - the feature is being worked on and a crap load of stuff is missing so give it time.

From what I've seen of the character creation you'll be able to create some really cool avatars for minmatar in particular, struggled more with my gallente but I'm sure once all the bits are in I'll get there. Also the amarr models are looking promising but caldari are still ugly.

Even my wife wanted to have a go on the new character creation, first time shes ever tried anything in eve. 
So I'd say hold off judgement till the feature is nearer complete but make your suggestions in the thread in the test forum.

i dont agree with that, faces make you who you are, that is exactly what i look for in local and such, those tiny little thumbnails, i tell my friends and foes apart from that little thumbnail not the name itself, this will change the game into something entirely different for me, wich is not a good thing in any way
accomplishments, skills, kb, friends, and reputation is all tied to the faces,

If it's just a matter of identifcation, well, after a month of playing you'll be used to the new faces and will be able to do the exact same thing. You mentioned before that you had grown attached to your character which is why you didn't want that changed (or at least, that was my understanding). Walking in stations may end up allowing you to become more attached to your character. Ultimately, a little growing pains now is intended to help pave the way for a more immersive sci-fi experience (whether or not it is successful remains to be seen).

this char system is not bad in a way at all, if it had been from the start, and no it would not be that hard to implement something wich would copy old face and recreate it in this, and im hoping they will make it possible, im not very optimystic about it tho, since tranq has seemed to be the new test server after sisi crude stages

They explored mapping the current avatars to the new models and it didn't work out so well, actually didn't work at all, so you're just going to have to deal with it.
It's not that bad, get yourself a beer and sit down for an hour or two and work really, really hard at it, you'll get it...I promise.

I think for most people, their character is, in order of importance:
Name,
Skill,
Money & Stuff,
Avatar.
If you're judging your friends and enemies purely on the look of their avatar, I'm pretty sure you're doing it wrong.

Just take a screenshot of your characters current face and copy it once the change to new character generator happens. It's not that hard.

but on a more serious note i really really dont like where this is going with this char creation, like i said i have played this char through 7 years and i have grown to it, i have had alts but i dont connect to them like i do to this guy, and thus i dont use my alts for anything almost even tho they can do alot of stuff i just dont feel the connection, and it is very very sad that this is happening and only because of some stupid walking in station wich wont have any effect on the game itself, i have cancelled my accounts just over 2 months left of them wich means ill be able to try this char creation once more in its full and ready state, im hoping it will get better and that ccp will implement a way to copy old chars and be recreated in the new system, but if not ill not be renewing my sub just as simple as that
but heres to hoping that it will get better
