A fifth optional patch for Tyrannis 1.1 will be deployed during downtime on Thursday, October 21 which will fix several issues reported to us following the release of Tyrannis 1.1. While the patch is optional, we would encourage everyone to apply the update to ensure your gameplay is improved. A full list of updated patch notes can be found here.
The reason for deploying an optional patch is that these updates contain UI core fixes which are client-only changes in python. This process is much quicker to prepare, test and execute and allows us to prepare a patch much faster than usual. The EVE Online client remains usable whether an optional patch is applied or not.
Following downtime you will see a pop up box once the client is launched informing you that a patch is available and if you want to install. If you click 'Yes' then the patch will be applied and then you can log into Tranquility. If you choose 'No' you will log in to Tranquility directly but none of the fixes will be applied. If you clicked 'No' in error you can still apply the patch by going to the ESC menu, General Settings and apply the patch from the 'Install' button there.

In the past this is how they do it, they won't let people run patch 1,2,3, etc if they put a new cumulative patch up, either you take the new one or go back to unpatched tyrannis whatever.
I know, im just surprised that in their infinite wisdom they have failed to mention wether this is the case or not.
Yes, this is still the case and will continue to be so. These are really incremental updates rather than separate optional patches. The reason we're doing so many of them is because we want to get the fixes out as soon as they are ready and tested.

If so, will we have the option to uninstall once they are incorporated into the major patch/expansion?
Translated: We can have pie now and not latter, if we so choose!?!?
Yes, all the updates will be included when a patch is released, and the latest optional update at that time will become obsolete.

I do not have an "install" button in the General Settings tab when I hit esc.
How should I go about applying this optional patch?
Thank you!
At the bottom of the middle column under General Settings, there should be an "Optional Upgrade" section. Under that there should either be a button to install, or it should say "Your client is running an optional upgrade" with an uninstall button below. If neither of those are there, then something is wrong and I would very much appreciate a bug report with a screen shot and logserver output, with a comment asking that it gets forwarded to me.

Due to an issue with EVE Mail formatting, we are disabling Tyrannis 1.1 optional patch #5 and restoring Tyrannis 1.1 optional patch #4. If you installed optional patch #5 you will get this error the next time you log in. To resolve this, start the client, go into the ESC menu, click on the "General Settings" tab, and then hit the "uninstall" button. Restarting the client will then allow you to restory Tyrannis 1.1 to optional patch #4.

can I say we called it? not that it was difficult...
Yes, thank you. Let me just say it like it is, this was a substantial change to the edit control and in our eagerness to test whether or not it solved the existing issues (which it did), we failed to test some other functionality of the edit. And I'm in all honesty really upset that a) we didn't catch this and b) we don't have a fix out yet for the current issues (copy/paste and memory issues).

I'm not sure how to file a bug report nor how to take a log server report.
However, here is the screenshot: Posting images directly is not allowed here. Spitfire
Note that you have to be logged in before you get the button to install the update.

Since this patch has not been deployed, the thread will be locked and a new one posted for any future patches.
