Will the eveonline site get a makeover in general during this time?
The EVE online website as a whole will be getting reworked over time, piece by piece bringing all of it in synch with what we are doing with EVE Gate. It won't be a single launch event such as with an expansion like Incursion but rather a steady migration of content and features, upgrading each as we go.

- I care about text chat far more than voice chat, as many other players have also made clear for some time. We already have Ventrilo for out-of-game voice. Give us corp and alliance chat in EVE Gate as a first pass, please. And eventually we'd like access to all the channels I could normally join.
- Why are iterations on the EVE Gate interface so slow? Given agile development practices, we should be seeing lots of small, incremental updates, rather than huge pushes that take months to develop. This really concerns me, because EVE Gate development has not at all lived up to initial expectations.
- We need a mobile interface. We needz it. (And if you make it iPhone only, you'll have seriously missed the point.)
1. yep agreed, in this case due to Vivox helping us a metric ton we are simply able to bring a voice solution to you much faster and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring you guys more features. Chat is definitely on the to do list but I don't have a timeframe on it in part because there are bigger questions pending about improving/refactoring chat as a whole. We definitely want to add it asap though
2. in part because the early architecture / build and deploy processes are too tightly tied to EVE server builds. Part of the work leading up to this expansion is a lot of back end and process re-factoring which will allow us to more quickly release changes to the web portion of EVE Gate where we don't need client builds or major back end changes.
3. Agreed. There is a bigger question about mobile development strategies here that we are wrestling with but we purposely built EVE Gate with a service oriented approach so we will be able to utilize the service layers for the API, mobile applications or other purposes. So we definitely want to go down this path and have laid the ground work for it (and I agree not just iOS) but I don't have a timeline for you right now.

I definitely will Mynxee and the teams were recently talking about it as Dr Eyjo reminded us.

These forums will be available from within EVE Gate and will be intergrated with it.
Does this mean that forums will be offline too when server is down? If so... FAIL, the forums are the only way to be informed when unexpected comes and breaks EVE and also are the place to go while you wait for EVE to go up when it happens to coincide downtime with your playing time.
The current plan is for the forums to be up during downtime as long as the backend database (TQ) itself is up - it's needed to do login/authentication at least. When larger patches are going that require the DB to be offline the forum will be down when the DB is down. We have a little work remaining to get there but that is the current plan. That would mean some functions of EVE Gate (which the forums will link to) may be down and disabled during those times but the forums themselves will be there for your use.

That is definitely in the plans and part of putting this new forum in place is setting the ground work for that.

Will you preserve 100% of the existing content when moving to the new forum?
The plan is to keep the existing forum up in read-only mode so you can reference/copy over the content and we will start the new forums up from scratch. Porting over the content from a wholly different database structure was a nightmarish consideration to say the least
