Edited by: Selinate on 25/10/2010 19:27:47 When I was a kid and started playing Everquest (way back in the day), I would play as male characters. Same with all the other games I played until I got past the whole masculinity complex or whatever. I know I'm a guy. I like being a guy. I'd rather look at a girl (digitally imaged or not) than a guy while I'm playing a game and having fun.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm much more secure about my gender than the internet guys who say "YOU'RE A TRANSVESTITE, GAY, WEIRDO" if a guy plays a girl character.

Just because youre "secure" - doesnt mean you arent a transvestite. You enjoy presenting yourself as a women and do it - thus you are a transvestite.
Bad troll. Go back under your bridge. No one wants you here.

Actually, they're opinions. There is nothing factual about your implication. You are just trying to make a connection between two totally different things.
The fact that you see them as the same, doesn't make them the same.
He's trying to get a rise out of guys who play female characters by calling them transvestites. The things he's saying probably doesn't even reflect his opinions.
Hence, troll. Let's not feed the trolls

Guys saying they play girls because they prefer to look at female avatars. A **** poor excuse for wanting to be treated like a woman in the anonymity of the web.
This is about right IMO.
...If we wanted to be treated like women in the anonymity of the web, then why exactly would so many guys come to this thread and kill their anonymity by saying they're guys and they play as women characters?

If you dont like the definition thats your problem. You cant say Im wrong for using that.
2 If you want to ignore the 'sex' part for the purpose of this conversation thats cool - doing so only strengthens my point.
3 LOLz. If thats your best argument I win. RL ttire correlates to chosen icon appearance in EVE.. Their is no female or male behavior in EVE other than coming onto people - which most of us dont do regardless of our appearance.
I have to say that this kind of view on my opinions and the immaturity of the statement "i win" reminds me of myself... when I was 12 years old (though I still managed to spell correctly and put sentences together in a more coherent way).
Also, you're logic is completely idiotic, and extremely immature. You don't know what a transvestite is. You threw that definition out there without even looking at it and seeing that it, in itself, completely destroys your argument. Anyone who is a transvestite, no matter whether on the internet or in real life, identifies themselves as women (or men, for people who are born women). Essentially this means that a transvestite would not come into this thread, identify their character as a woman, and then identify themselves as a man in real life (especially with the anonymity of the web where they wouldn't have to say that they are a men).
And even then, apparently it's lost on you that some people just make a female avatar, just to create something that looks much more visually appealing to them, and then, since it's an avatar, essentially never look at it again because you're in a space ship. Some men just like to create female avatars because they like to look at women, and don't identify themselves as that avatar at all. If you think that all online games are where people role play as something else all the time, then you are very naive.
You have no argument. All you've done is go around and say "I win, I'm right, this is how it is". Now go ask your mommy to make you dinner and wait until your balls drop.

Of course, it's much more sensible for a guy to play what's essentially a rebel alien from 20,000 years in the future who's holding his spaceships together with duct tape.
I really don't get that attitude. So there i was, playing a female character in WoW. I got a long emo-rage from a guy over it. The guy didn't see any problem at all in him playing a 9-foot tall talking cow which walks upright and wields 2 swords which are longer than the character.
Some people really need to take a step back and look at what they're saying.
When I played WoW, I got some of the same crap.
However, when I played Aion, they made the female characters so.... how should I say it... from an anime nerd's wet dream, it was pretty much accepted in the community for guys to play girl characters, they were so damn.... attractive...

No, you can just go check out screenshots yourself and find out.

Some people are stupid just because they are born that way, but you, sir, have just officially chosen to be stupid. I guess the lesson here is when someone chooses to be the way that you've chosen to be, you can't fix them. All you can do is live and let one run around being an idiot and mucking up his/her own life.
However, if you wish to do a good deed for the rest of the world (especially these forums), please, keep your stupidity to yourself. Then again, I guess that's asking to much.

Even when going after "your" bloody definition, it proves you wrong. A transvestite after that definition, would have to get something else than visual stimulation out of some avatar they chose. Thus, they would have to, as said like a billion times, lie about their real sex and then get something out of that. The picture in this case that you have, doesn't have to do anything with it.
Basically, you could go to some chat, with your current avatar, then say you are a girl in real life. You can do that with the picture of a dog as your avatar, or a car it wont matter one bit.
What this thread does show tho, is that you need to represent your manliness through a tiny pic in an mmo, where your avatar is vastly unimportant. But yes, you clearly won the argument, congratulations. Im sure that homophobia that goes hand in hand with "im right because i say so" attitude will get you far in life.
Not trying to be rude or anything of the sorts, but I just have to say deja vu. I posted essentially the same thing a page back
He's an immature child who refuses to accept anyone's opinion other than the unsubstantiated, ignorant, and intolerant one that is his own. I can only imagine what his childhood was like considering the state of denial he's in right now about the fact that his argument is simply "I'm right, you're wrong, i win!"

O.o we're not lying if we're just coming out and saying we're guys, like we are right now. It's the same point I made to ghoest earlier.
Originally by: Arakash Mond I am surprised by the number of guys that supposedly enjoy looking at their female avatars while playing though. That is something I truly don't get
It's not so much enjoy looking at female avatars as much as we would just rather create a female avatar, and as in most mmo's, would just rather look at a female then a male. I don't get "joy" out of it, I just don't like looking at avatars that look ugly and disturbing, especially with incursion and incarna around the corner.
