capntrips Gallente Chaos' Heart Rough Necks	Posted - 2010.10.28 18:31:00 - [1] I would just like to put this out there as a warning to other large corporations and alliances out there. We have taken a major hit recently because one of our director's accounts was hacked and cleared out. They cleared out at least 5bil from the corp hangar as well as the player's account. We've also had 2 members from the alliance who have been hacked and completely cleared out to the tune of tens of billions. CCP's reply, after a solid week, was that there was essentially nothing they could do. We were refunded the ISK that the hacker was able to make off the items, instead of the actual value for the items. For instance, he sold a scimitar for 32mil, and instead of being refunded the value of the scimitar, all we got was the 32mil. He also melted down a large quantity of T2 mods and sold the minerals. I would just like to urge EVERYONE to be VERY careful with usernames and passwords, change them frequently. Because, if you are hacked, CCP really won't be very helpful, you will take a serious loss, and that's the sort of thing that really just ruins the game. So be safe everyone, and remember, don't count on CCP

Don't go on whatever webpages, don't let a Keylogger into your System. Don't share your Accounts ( not saying that you are / were but yeah, just saying ). So why would CCP bother doing a fukcton of work, just because you made a mistake ? Getting hacked is always YOUR fault and not CCPs. I think you can be happy that they reimbursed anything at all.

And yea, chances are there was something he could've done to prevent it. However. He did realize within about 10 minutes that the account had been hacked. The hacker changed not only his password, but also the email associated with the account. So aside from the MAJOR security hole allowing someone to change the account email without some kind of notice or confirmation going to the original email account, there was no way to actually do anything. We spent over an hour just watching this guy sell off all our stuff. I entered a convo with him, he actually had the nerve to ask me to PvP him while he was on the stolen account. All the while the original player is sitting in corp on an alt, watching some mother**er who's stolen his account jabber away in corp chat while clearing out all his assets. So yea, maybe HE did something wrong, but I still expect CCP to do a '**ton' of work to preserve the integrity of the game. We worked hard for that stuff and it really sucked to see it all go. It sucked even more to have to wait a full week before getting the response telling us that we would not have any assets returned to us. As for whether he was banned.... no idea. CCP had no idea who hacked the account or how they hacked it. And it took the guy a week to get his toon back. (The hacker actually sold the toon, thankfully CCP was able to reverse that)

I'm really starting to like this guy lol! Dude, your buddies who got hacked somehow gave away their username/password. They probably are total idiots and signed up for an Eve related website using the same username/password they use on their account like a total moron, or something equally ****ed. You don't have to change your password often, you don't have to do much at all, just don't give the damn thing away!!! Look at me, not giving away my username/password right now... look still not giving it away... Personally I think the real problem is you have some people in your corp who aren't very intelligent with how they handle their own passwords, so probably should never be trusted with corp assets ever again. You're buddy is lucky he got anything back at all IMO.

This is actually the first forum post I've ever made, mostly because I know the type of people that read/respond to forum posts.... I've never known anyone in game who's been hacked, and in this past month 3 pilots I fly with have been ripped off bigtime. I thought it might be a good idea to bring it up on the forums, let people know. The director who was hacked works in IT, he knows how to avoid stupid phishing scams, but clearly he and the rest of my corpies are all just idiots, and it's obviously all our fault.

Who can assure to me that they are not hacking by use of any CCP security flaw instead of stealing passwords? Welcome to CAOD :( Perhaps C&P would have been a wiser choice with hindsight. Ignore the trolls, you can just laugh when they get hacked. It doesn't take much to prevent it, but it also doesn't take much to slip up either. It's pronounced row-bot-nick you silly FC.

"One of your directors accounts" just took you for all the money you had, and is looking forward to doing it again in the future. No chance that CCP didn't know where the isk went.
