I like how 90% blaming the person who got hacked, and relishing in the misery he got, saying it is deserved.
So I suppose CCP can continue to act like inept phallus's about this happening, because 90% of other players want to have other suffer for the sake of it, even if its unfair or has little to do with game mechanics but the use of outside channels which... are illegal.
You do realize it could happen to just about anyone right, I am well aware of a hacker who got sensitive information on two forums of large alliances that were sophisticated and organized. Even with all of the security blizzard has, and steps players take people still get accounts hacked on their games too.
The lot of you are bunch of sociopaths and degenerates. I'm exposing you for what you are. How is that for a bad post to add on top the opening.

I'm sorry for your loss.
The reason CCP only gives ISK back is they work from a zero sum situation. They can't invent isk and give to you and they can't make new items. Since anything sold or bought in EVE is bound to be used quickly and thus potentially lost (like all those minerals now in other products), or like the scimitar being lost in battle already they just return isk.
In essence they apply the KISS principle to reimbursements of this nature.
Don't give up and keep flying :)
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts.

^^^ This. If someone's account gets hacked, the least CCP can do is investigate the logs (logged IP Addresses, accounts involved, trades performed) and take ingame action to limit the damage. Both from an ethical and business perspective. Customers invest money in this; it's a business. The money invested (and I mean hard currency, not ISK) need to be protected to some extent. Measures that need should implemented CCP-side from a security standpoint: - Account owner can't change password without approving the request from his original e-mail address (confirmation sent to that e-mail address); - Account owner can't change e-mail address without approving it first (same mechanism as above); - Possibility to use different passwords (at least!) for EVE Forums accounts; - Possibility to remotely freeze or inactivate an account on-demand by using account's e-mail address (sending an e-mail with a special API code to a generic CCP e-mail address). Saying "it's all your bloody fault" only works if one's playing dumb, poorly coded free-to-play games AND if the company making those games is clueless about security. Any smartypants here blabbering about how this would never happen to them need to know that in some (albeit fairly rare) cases, it's not your fault at all. One example would be VoIP Telephony accounts hacked server-side, causing many people to lose generous amounts of money because their accounts were abused by hackers. It was 100% NOT their fault. Why not at least give those people the benefit of the doubt? Must be hard to be a human being and express sympathy, right? ...gis sdrawkcaB |

Just wanted to note...In the last 2 months I've heard of 10x more accounts getting hacked than in the last 7 years of playing eve. It's obviously on the rise peeps. Personally I think someone "inside" is selling info for RL cash. There I said it :)

The number of people realising they can steal a corporation blind and then claim they were hacked is increasing at a rate that could be described as 10x.

Very true - BUT, all the hacks I've heard of over the last couple months were individual players getting cleaned out of their personal ships, isk, items.

Firstly, if CCP reimbursed any of the stuff I very much doubt this was a case of the director running off.
To all the people going "Your fault!"... How secure is your corp/alliance? You being clever doesn't cut it. How familiar are you with the browsing habits and security practices of every single director and important person in your organization?

Well it is his fault. One way or another, he did something stupid which caused him to get hacked.

As he has already said HE didnt get hacked, one of our directors did. Then the hacker went on to steal from the corp hangar etc. The director was compensated (partially) for his losses, but our gripe is that the corp hangar was not compensated.

Director: I was partially compensated for my losses, but the corp wasn't.

I dont understand what point you are trying to make, we know for a fact it was a hacking as the corp wallet which was also stolen, was refunded by a GM. And the director in question is real life friends with the CEO of the corp, and they live very close to each other. |

Confirmed. Bout 4 hours our corp waited for the corp isk when a director was hacked. His account took a few days to be unlocked however.

If your password does not include a variety of numerals, lower-case, upper-case, and special characters in a nonsequential and nonrepeating order, you are doing it wrong.

Believing that it's personal failure and that you must fail as a person if you get hacked is one of the most dangerous perceptions about hacking there is. Nobody even if you have rigorous security measures is immune to it. Even if don't visit shady sites and keep your computer up to date, do everything right you can still be a victim. http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/02/02/superbowl-stadium-site-hacked-to-infect-pcs/ for instance, a hacked non-shady site that used a then very recent vulnerability to install a keylogger.
There are a lot ways to get hacked and a lot of ways hacked and a lot of ways to protect yourself to a certain degree.
But let's get down to the real problem: people using RMT to get their stuff. Report those people, get rid of this cancer in EVE. Boot them out of your corporations. Get rid of these lowlifes. I you tolerate them in your corp then the next time a friend gets hacked, you know to who the ISK goes. The players buying their things for real money AND the ones tolerating said players are the real problem.

This is true. CCP will also permanently ban the recipient as well as all their other accounts on the basis that they must be the hacker. While entry level alliances stumble around with meta-gaming the big boys have moved onto meta-hacking letting CCP obligingly eliminate key personel from enemy alliances by simply taking a hacked account and diverting its contents to an unsuspecting foe. Natural targets are logistics guys, FCs and forum *****s.
The layers of this game are truly astounding.

That was true a couple of years ago. Meanwhile, with multiple cores and GPU processing to do the brute forcing, password length is more important than complexity.
