Totally the right choice in the end! Although it says nothing about the ship appearing ingame in the prize list...CCP? Something to tell us?

What's the story on the first prize winner? Wasn't that the ship that wasn't a semi-finalist that everyone was pointing to as the prime example of DA's incompetency? Did CCP push it in there, or did DA do a double take and change their minds?

My favorite was the second place. I really hope they add it to the game. Hell, it wouldn't be right unless they added all three I think. No sense in letting those great designs go to waste

That was put in place of the LA battlecruiser, which was horrible. DA only removed it because it violated an obscure rule. This got put in its place, good thing too.

I know what it says on the contest page, I'm just saying that the ship being put ingame isn't listed amongst the winner's rewards :)

Im not ignoring you. It's probably not in the prize list because everyone knew the top placing entry will be put in eve. fake edit: CCP, i know you reduced the post timer, but it should be 30 seconds or so.

Sure! It was by far the least imaginative and interesting design of the semi-finalists ù almost entirely derivative. Yes, it should fit in with the overarching look of the game, but that doesn't mean that we need two ships that look the same, only along different axes. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

CCP...You dissappoint me today. Really. Truly.
I intend to shoot the tornado on sight. This is a miscarrage of justice and a support of Deivant Art's utter blatant disregard for the rules it laid down. There were far better entries and you know it. I wont cancel an account over this. But i see now that your supposed commitment to delivering a better game is crap. This is a failure of monumental proportions.

Whilst I appreciate that yes I would rather agree that I'd prefer the winning ship to be from outside the 4 playable races sphere of influence, I feel that is asking a little much. Eve's art style is completely of its own. Regardless which ship you see, it's clear that it belongs in the universe. The art tends to be extremely communicative, functional and cohesive, this is what makes the game feel the way it does. Asking for someone to create an entirely new ship that fits in with the universe without borrowing heavily from other ships is rather a tall order, one that tends to be left to the creative teams at CCP themselves.
So whilst I agree that I would've like to have seen something perhaps more original, I feel that this entry is still utterly stunning, couldn't fit anymore into the universe if it were taken directly from the art book AND is both extraordinarily well drawn and thought out.
Just my two isk though.
E/ To clarify, I really can't see any other entry that comes close on the above levels.

Let's be realistic here: according to the rules of the contest (a legal contract, in addition to any contracts which may exist between CCP and DA), CCP had to pick their winner from the 15 finalists selected by deviantart. Since DA's idiot judges screwed up so spectacularly, the three winners were the only real choice CCP had.
The only blame CCP deserves here is for not being aware of deviantart's poor reputation and trusting them with such an important contest. -----------

Flip it upside down.
You get the Myrmidon.
The lack of effort that design showed... it enrages me to no end. There were serious problems with this contest that was publicly spoken about with proof given by players (some of the pics DA took down because WE WERE RIGHT!) The second place ship has far too much liking to the SW clone wars ship 'Malevolence' Out of the 15 semi finalists there were hundreds of better choices and more in line with the game than this.
Deviant Art and CCP just gave the entire game world the finger. I was hoping that CCP would find the balls to tell DA to **** off with that choice of 15. I catch a blue flying this ship i dont care who it is i will shoot it on sight and let the chips fall. This is a travesty and a disaster. It is an embarrassment to me to artists and it is an astonishing '**** you' to the players.

At which point DA tells CCP to "**** off" with a lawsuit for breach of contract. Like it or not, the legal contracts (both the official rules, and very likely a deal between CCP and DA to host the contest) state that CCP has to pick the winners from DA's selection of 15 finalists. No matter how much CCP might disagree with the finalists, there's nothing they can do about it.
As for a public statement, it's just not going to happen. Even if CCP are privately angry about this whole trainwreck of a contest (and I suspect quite a few of them are), think of what it says to potential future partners if CCP officially states "our marketing partner is run by a bunch of idiots". I'd rather see future events (hosted by more respectable people though) than an angry letter from CCP, no matter how satisfying it might be in the short term. -----------
