Who cares? It's up there with the dumbest ideas of all time. From the Eve point of view it is just making PI more tedious ("I have to rebuild my Planet *again*?") or expensive. From the console point of view who cares about a bunch of PC geeks playing a slooooow game lets just shoot stuff. 1-3 months later the console users get bored, something newer comes out, and the game is a wasteland.
And that's the best case.

You know that this whole project is doomed to failure.
CCP is developing a game genre they are unfamiliar with(FPS) in a city they are unfamiliar with (Shanghai), which is in turn in a country they are unfamiliar with (China) on a platform they are unfamiliar with(consoles).
Even if they get it working, the FPS market is saturated with direct competition, MW2, BC2, MOH:CO, Halo:Reach. The only thing Dust will have going for it is it's MMO nature, and as stated CCP isn't leveraging it's existing MMO crowd and is instead targeting a group that doesn't care about it's MMO aspects. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I mentioned dust to a bunch of my friends that play FPS exclusively on consoles...the attitude was pretty much "meh" about the whole concept...
...I have a feeling that's how the majority of console players are going to view Dust...it'll be "meh" when they have all these other hit franchises to choose from like CoD and Halo...
Hopefully it'll flop on consoles and be ported to PC for those of us who do like EVE and would love an EVE FPS.

Dust 156 is console only?! When did this change occur? Suggestion: Remove the "new topic" button from everywhere apart from the list of topics section within a subforum.
That'd save those with chronic hand/eye coordination some face. |

How will the two game interact? We barely got limited PI as it is.

People in EVE hire people in Dust to blow up your PI installations.

Don't know about that one, but Dust 514 has been console-only since the day it was announced. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Allegedly the 'link' is yet unknown and undefined unless I've missed something.
Early reports/speculation was that Dust would tie into sovereignty or perhaps what is the 'system index' crap now. Ultimately we don't know what the point, from an EVE players perspective, Dust will be other than we 'hire' them. Some artificial reason has to draw Dust players out somewhere to hold/take a planet/facility/etc then there exists the chance that those Dust players affect other parties who have to deal with them by presumably hiring/recruiting other dust players to get rid of them.
Scenario NPC 'raiders' attack your PI facility to defend it/rebuild you must hire Dust players to get rid of them, in doing so they damage or reduce profitability of neighboring PI facilities(maybe the a section of the planet or the entire planet) owned by other players or even prevent their use. To recover usability of PI facilities other EVE players must hire/recruit other Dust players to deal with them.
Options could be anything from having reduced output w/o Dust players to being prevented from upgrading/expanding facilities or managing them w/o Dust players to 'secure' them.
The whole system could even be some 'queued' mission/op scenario where EVE player A hires Dust player to defend their stuff if someone invades and when EVE Player B invades by hiring Dust players to attack Player A Dust players have a 'mission' available that can continue ad infinitum. Dust players looking at operations available to them with x resources/objectives attack/defend/sabotage/etc each playing up the idea of being on a planet type, barren, ice etc with possible resources the contractor adds such as support vehicles/air/etc.
