Edited by: none nalim on 01/11/2010 17:14:54 Hi, I play Eve for 3 months now and I think it's a great game especially for a person like me. I'm a handicapped person with physical disability and playing a game, where keybord isn't essential is uncommon this days. But there is 1 big problem for me: double-click speed to move is to fast for me.
There isn't anything more annoyin then to loose your ship because u can't fly in needed direction. You try to double-click, you click, you push this button 5, 10 seconds and nothing happens...
My request would be that you add some customisation options for double-click speed or maybe in right-click menu option 'mowe'. Eve is a great game but this small thing ruins my fights.. and in my opinion more people would be grateful for this small convenience.
Waiting for your answer Dear developers. NonenaliM

For quickfix for yourself (as this will anyway get ages to implent as ccp has so much to do atm), get a mouse which has extra buttons that are progamable and put one of the buttons to do double click when pressed.
But yeah, those customisations would be good to have too.

Mouse double-click speed can be adjusted by any modern Windows-based machine. Should be accessible through Windows Settings --> Hardware/Mouse stuff.

yeah, i will try that, but I don't know if it will work in my case, because I think I am able to use only 2 buttons.

If I may pry into your personal life, what is your disability?
I myself am disabled and have an extremely severe case of arthritis at a young age and have my own issues using a mouse and keyboard. Additionally my girlfriend has Spinal Muscular Atrophy and doesn't have use of some of her digits. Between the two of us we may be able to come up with a potential solution for you.
If you feel uncomfortable discussing this out in the open feel free to drop me an in-game mail.
Regardless, good luck!

I am curious if in your case that the new shortcuts coming in incursion will help you? I know you may not have had chance use them yet but do they sound good?

@Kesshisan
No, I don't have a problem talking about my disability :) Like your girlfriend I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy in an advance stage.
@Christopher
You mean keyboard shortcuts? If yes I don't use keyboard. My left hand is out of order ;] To write I use Windows virtual OnûScreen keybord. To play any game I can use 2 main buttons and scroll wheel. My thumb is I think to weak to use mouse thumb buttons.

Cool advice :> I like online games. Can u tell me is there any good online game for mouse only?
PS. for 1 year i played CS/Natural selection. No Keyboard, right click to move, left shoot. And i wasn't last on scoreboard. Usually in the middle, sometimes seconf/third. Then I played WoW, in PvE I achived almost everything that u can as a healer. No keyboard. Now I want to play Eve at highest level and i will do it, hopefuly with CCP little help.

I feel bad suggesting another game as Eve is a great game, but if you are having problems with the controls.....
I have been casually playing Guild Wars at the moment, and it springs to mind that although it does have WSAD keyboard controls to move, you can actually play pretty much without them, just using a left click on the screen to 'move to this point' and hold the right mouse to rotate the screen. All actions in game are left click on spell icons or on the monster to attack.. (you may be better off playing a spellcaster than a up close warrior)
You may be at a disadvantage when playing this way as its not as easy as WSAD, but with no loss of items/gold/exp on death, its not a big deal. (plus you arnt really competing with other people if you play in campain mode)
I hope you can get Eve working so you can play it, but if not, maybe you could try GuildWars.
Fiy Safe!

asuming you have the ability to user wasd or arrow keys an idea from another powt may work, the post was one of mine about how joy sticks could still be used in game
the idea was simple you have a bubble comprised of 3 cicles around your ship with a nav line coming from the center to your currect direction. with the use of the joystick, wasd, arrow keys you moved the line to the direction you wanted to go and hit for lack of better wording <enter> which was a key you would have set earlyer. this essentualy does the double click for you in the target direction

hey hey!
I'm gonna ask around and see this could be fixed. I think that tying it up to the windows accessibility controls should be possible, but i'll ask a programmer about it.

hey none nalim if you can use your left hand just a little bit you could try the windows keyboard mouse (MouseKeys), sadly i can only give you a keyboard shortcut to activate it since i can't find any other way to activate it (maybe someone knows an easier way to activate it) shortcut is: left alt + left shift + num-lock
and then you could use the fairly big num+ button for double clicks

Being able to assign the double click to move to a shortcut on the keyboard would be a huge help if possible, if not a sensitivity adjustment. Great time too with the new shortcut system coming in Incursion.
My problem is that the last two mouse I've used had very sensitive left clicks, so I happen to double click by accident a lot. For example when I'm at a 0.0 bubbled gate and gate cloaked, I left click to look around and my ship suddenly starts moving in the direction I look at because the game registered two clicks. As you can imagine, that can end pretty badly

I'm going to try a4tech mouse and I will see if such small button will work for me :) Chances are 50/50.

none nalim,
I was finally able to connect with my girlfriend on this subject. She uses a small touchpad mouse, one about the size of a laptop touchpad, but it's a stand alone item.
It looks something like this: http://www.ergonomictouchpad.com/eu/?gclid=CKa607XTjKUCFQGHDgodWj2MMg
But it has two mouse buttons, like this: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2007/Tempest/2900955R/2900955Rivr7.shtml (Note: That one looks a bit larger than the one she described.)
Also for a keyboard, she uses this one: http://www.clasohlson.fi/Product/LargeImageViewer.aspx?Path=/Archive/Images/Products/Hi/382573_X_2009-03-09_123843_861.jpg
She said "the profile is lower, so i don't have to lift my fingers much, it's not too small (like on netbooks) or too big (keys are closer to eachother and smaller, so less hand movement), it has an edge for wrist/hand support"
She added that "the best mouse i had was some m$ basic laser one, since it was so light and comfortable it just go slimy fast, since it was covered with rubber"
She called this mouse the "best mouse ever" http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=064
Unfortunately I couldn't find any software which worked in Eve. As you know, windows stickykeys functionality doesn't work for combat in Eve (even though it works for chat.) :( I tried a few other things which didn't help out much at all either. Hopefully CCP will pick up the ball on this one.
Regardless, I hope these suggestions help out. :)

Edited by: none nalim on 08/11/2010 14:21:19 First of all thanks for taking all the trouble to write that post :)
For the touch pad unfortunately it wouldn't work for me. And even for people with no disability playing any game on touch pad is annoying.
"best mouse ever" looks great and if CCP will change double-click speed I will certainly buy it, but for now it seems my only option, thou inconvenient, is one of the a4tech mouses.
BTW anyone can confirm that this additional a4tech button works in Eve?

Edited by: Face612 on 08/11/2010 19:45:58 I know this is expensive but it may help you and your girlfriend. http://www.emotiv.com/apps/epoc/299/
I don't know how well it works though there are videos of people using it for mouse control and playing a number of games. Something along the lines of a device like this could open up all kinds of games and functions you couldn't use before.
an other idea is a track pad, like what was already mentioned ( here is a cheep one http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&biw=1121&bih=622&q=touchpad&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=5387626795368506473&ei=i0_YTIGoLMG88gaeksXFBg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CHgQ8wIwAw# )
and the use of a gesture recognition program such as this: http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/
that way you can "draw" a command with out having to tap your finger. i experimented with this program and it worked pretty well, I do not know if it would transfer into EVE though.
Best wishes, hope this helps.

this neuroheadset is very nice but to expensive for me..
also I tried this gesture recognition program. It's nice but I dont think it will work with Eve double-click, because its not only a commend but it needs to have mouse cursor in precise position.

I do not have a disability but I have played EVE for many years and maybe I have a solution.
1. Make a new overview tab with planets and gates on it. 2. When your FC calls for alignement switch tab, select the object your fleet is aligning towards and press ->o button. 3. Switch back and continue shooting.
Might loose you a few seconds of shooting but beats dying :)
