A suggestion:
Maybe lock the initial 23 page 1.2 thread and provide links to this thread and the issues thread in that initial thread.
Also, make a comment on the main Eve page that says the server is up and running a link the two new threads there.

I manually patched and had an optional patch follow immediately. I don't know if this is a good thing or not. It either means you are on the ball and trying to catch more crap before it gets out, or you aren't too worried about appearances ...
Lets face it, either QA have picked up a real problem, in which case fix it and delay server-up, or it wasn't a real problem so let it go, fix it at your leisure, and avoid any negativity. By doing neither it gives the impression you are indecisive, and have a fragile product you are constantly tinkering with, which might not inspire confidence in everybody.

For feedback let me just say thanks for keeping us in the loop much better this time around. I don't mind waiting when I know why I'm waiting.
Great job CCP.
Now if only I could get home and actually play! --Vel

Good launch. I'm able to log on now, unlike the last update before 1.2 was launched. I haven't noticed any bugs yet, just a slight lag for the first 30 seconds after undocking.
Anyhow, keep up the good work!

This, I did a WTF? double take cause I just DL a patch, ran it then get a message to DL a 'fix'.

I am not quite sure what you are saying here, as you seem to be implying that we did not choose one of the two options that you list (of the 3 main possibilities from our perspective).
You say, "...either QA have picked up a real problem, in which case fix it and delay server-up..." This is exactly what we did. We found an issue and fixed it in a client update (the optional patch that you were offered after installing the patch). Of course, we could have taken that fix and rebuilt the client and server and all of the patches instead of doing a client update (optional patch), but that would introduce additional risk as well as delaying uptime by another few hours, and these forums generally tend to not like us for that... ;) Or we could have just released in the state as it was then and fixed it later, in which case the initial issue would not have been fixed, which would have created a poor experience for many players.
In this case, we have fixed a serious issue as quickly as we could, and gotten it out to our players immediately. We have insured that Tranquility was up as quickly as possible. The only downside is that there was an additional pop-up and tiny patch before players got into the game. Considering the alternatives, this was by far the best solution and one that we will use in the future as well, as it gives our players the best possible experience in the most efficient manner.

As one of the many who (rightly I believe) criticised the farce of the 1.1 release - with its poorly tested original release followed by the seemingly endless patches that often made things worse - that earned CCP no credit whatsoever... I'd like to congratulate CCP on a much better performance this time around.
Release 1.2 (whilst clearly still containing bugs and issues) has gone much better. The principal difference being the quantum leap in improved communication and responsiveness from CCP.
The post reporting patch progress as it was on-going was a great advance - what a refreshing change from the usual "we've put back the uptime another hour" mesage box that appeared 5 minutes before the planned uptime... and the next delay being similarly announced a few minutes before the new uptime.
And I notice that issues being posted on the forum are being replied to by Devs fairly promptly. Again, a huge improvement on the sullen silence and collective sulk that CCP seemed to enter when it was realised that 1.1 was a complete mess. By the time CCP Devs actually started posting responses, the damage was already done.
Obviously a Dev post recognising an issue is only worthwhile if the fix follows through, but treating paying customers with a bit of respect by at least recognising the issue is a huge improvement over the previous silence that left many frustrated players angrily cursing CCP.
Communication is key to keeping your customers happy... please keep it up!

Massive props for: - A rather well planned downtime and greatly executed update, - Updates.! They're awesome. Hope next downtimes can be like this one. An informed costumer is a happy costumer, - Dev responses both here and the issues thread.
Rather unhappy about: - Mail formating and supposed memory leak not being plugged, - Apparently bigger client (memory wise)

Edited by: aratillion on 08/11/2010 14:36:44 i like to reprt the is a bug with the character sheet, most time when you close the drop down box on skill it freezes the character sheet. the way i saw to fix it is to close the char sheet and reopen it to unfreeze it, however this is only a temp fix, it will refreeze if you close a skill drop down. other than thats everything is running smooth.

Tasteless green as faction marker is horrible. Even t3 red is plain ugly.
If you really tried you couldn't choose more uglier colours.
You know, for how good t3 are, even if it was pink (that tiny triangle in left corner) it would be enough manly for all those people who are uncertain about theirs sexuality.
You really dont need to use all shades of green, and if you really must, because, I dont know...someone will throw a cow on your roof, then experiment, let it be shocking, not plain as its now, baby puked something green on EvE.
Also where are space kittens?
Shoot your shot... |
