What ship would be the best to use for this purpose? And are the mining laser modules affecting the amount or do the harvesters only work?
Thanks. |

Where will you be harvesting gas?
I'd recommend: -A cheap BC that you can fly -5 Gas Harvester II's -3 or 4 Warp stabilizers -No rigs -enough tank to survive cloakies -a manic habit of hitting D-scan every 3-5 seconds -Align to safe spot -Cap rechargers to cap stability
I do it in a WH, so I need to be slightly paranoid. If in High sec, I'd probably chill out and relax a lot more.

I agree with using a battle cruiser for this. It's got plenty of slots and power enough that you're not using everything up with the harvesters.

Do you mean the upgrade modules? They have no affect on gas harvesters. There might be some implants that would help, but there aren't any upgrade modules (at least none that I know of).

A Cruiser will do the Job. Cheaper and fast to align/warp
Mining Warfare links also effect the Harvesters, Range, Cap use and duration. If you use a BC and you are in a Fleet you can fit a couple of Links or for max effect a mindlink equiped Orca pilot.

The only requirement is that it have turret hardpoints and enough CPU
I've used a Moa (cruiser), Ferrox and Hurrcane (battlecruisers). A Rokh (battleship) works well too. .

A moa has always worked great for me - it takes a bit longer to scan down than a BC if you pop a few eccm on it. Plenty of cargo, plenty of turrets

cruiser. better survivablitly. you aint ever going to escape from a cloaker or tank him, regardless of fit. if hes located you. he knows your fit and knows how to kill you. and this is assuming hes alone :).
At work so cant check but IIRC the omen is the best cruiser to use. high cpu., highest cargo space. fit your cargo expanders and cargo rigs if you choose, plus your gas miners and who cares if your killed when the ship pays for itself in 5 minutes flat :)

Exequror is nice since huge cargo only bad thing is only 4 slots or any bs with 5 turret slots

I haven't used Gas Miners in so long I'm not sure if I remember which end is the business end :)
But back when I was doing gas mining, I was partial to the Ishtar. It could hold it's own without sacrificing any offensive capability, not to mention I could tank pretty good in it. The Dominix, Myrmiddon, Gila, or even the Vexor would all work well for the same reason. Against Sleepers this could be a little more dangerous, but I seem to recall that the Sleepers that show-up at Gas Clouds aren't bad-enough to devour all of your drones in an instant, as long as you're careful.
I was thinking though, the up-and-coming Noctis could make for a good gas harvester. 8 High Slots on it, with nearly 1500m3 of storage. It would need support, as it has no drone bay on it (which would make it the only ORE ship to lack a drone bay).

a b/c so you can get 5 harvesters, 3 wcs and a bit of tank if your doing it in WH.

Brutix
5 x gas harv II 1 mining laser opt gang link med remote armor rep (heal up the drones)
cap batt 2 x cap regen shield booster
co-proc II 4 x cargo expand
6 drones (random flavor for rats)
I use this for gas mining missions in hi-sec. Sometimes I have a corp mate to fleet or have hailed a miner in the local belt and offered the bonus. A bit more skilling required that some would like. But reducing the cycle is a boon. That's the nice thing about BC, you can fit a gang link.

Exequrour (or however its spelled)
Prty straight forward: fill lows with expanded hold 2's and fill highs with harvesters and pray ppl wont jump you.
Upside is the rather large hold for a cruiser so you dont have to dual box it or keep flying back and forth.

I generally use a Hurricane for mining in WHs.
HIGH 5xGas Miner IIs
LOW 6xInternal Nanofiber Structure II
I call it a GTFO gas miner. I'm constantly scanning and looking for combat or core scanner probes and the moment I see one (not belonging to a corpie), I GTFO.

I have used a Hurricane fitted with 5 T2 harvester, 4 cargoholds and 2 warp stabilizers. I got caught by 2 Tengus in a WH and I managed to escape, so I think it's a good fitting.

this is what i do, i use the rest of my cpu and grid for invul and maybe an extender to protect me from rats as well as shield recharge rigs.

on a side note how much can you earn in 1 hour mining gas ? Both rates for high sec and wormholes would be velcome. I am just wondering since i just need to buy the skillbook but its expencive.

I generally make 10-15 million for 15 minutes of work as in a C1 there's normally only one cloud worth harvesting.

Not being mean, just pointing out for accuracy. I believe the Primae was the first ORE ship with no Drone Bay.

TouchT! Allow me to amend that statement to say the Noctis will be the first "real" ORE ship to not have a drone bay. Especially since it's hard to consider a freebie ship that can't be built a "real" ship

As noted before, a BC like a hurricane does the job wonderfully well ( I use one too ). However, I'd like to point out that the gas harvesters cycle duration is affected by the mining gang link that reduces cycle time. So putting one of those into your other high slots on a cane ( if you're in a fleet ofcourse. ) will help considerably.
