I logged into the game yesterday to run some missions in a group of a few players. To my surprise one of my regular fleetmates told me that he lost his Dominix earlier. When I asked him if he can buy a new one he told me that he is not able to buy anything because his wallet is in negative ISK balance. Now he is a newer player and I was surprised at how easily he could afford to buy new expensive ships, but then it becaume clear that he purchased ISK from one of the myriad websites that advertise it.
Do not under any circumstances do this!
Or you will be stuck like this guy unable to buy anything on market, unable to sell anything because he cannot pay taxes and broker fees, and he is even unable to update his medical clone or buy new skillbooks. Once GMs find out they will take the ISK out of your wallet and if you have spent it then your wallet will go into negative balance.
If you really really want to quickly earn a lump sum of ISK here is the only approved method of doing it: 1. Go to your Account Management page 2. Under Common tasks you will see it says "Buy Plex" in white text. Click on it. 3. Here you can purchase 2 units of PLEX (pilot extension license) which is essentially 60 days of game time that you can sell to other players in game for ISK. Each PLEX grants 30 days of game time and is worth about 350-360 million ISK if you sell it on the market in game. Search market for word "PLEX" if you want to see. 4. Once you log into the game you can redeem the PLEX you have purchased, sell one or both on market and make about 350-700 million ISK.
Save yourself and others some headache and use PLEX if you need an ISK injection. More information can be found here: Redeeming PLEX

Incorrect, or at least misleading. That is not the only way to buy Plex. It may be, and usually is, cheaper to get a gametime code from an online reseller and then use account management to convert that into 2 Plex. You do not have to buy plex directly from CCP.

I have never stated that this is the only way to buy a PLEX, but it is the easiest way that can be done right from this website. As far as I know all GTC retailers sell game time codes for exactly same price as you can purchase them from your account management page. If you can provide a link to website that you say sells them for cheaper that would be great!

When I buy game time or ETC directly from CCP, I have to pay 25% VAT. A 60-day ETC from Shattered Crystal (and probably also all other ETC sellers) is a little more expensive in raw terms, but getting to dodge the 25% VAT makes it hugely attractive.
So everyone should look at the price that CCP charges them (based on which country CCP knows they live in), and what any one other online seller charges, and do the "math", and use the cheapest method.

They're often much cheaper, depending on current exchange rates. List of resellers here, check for yourself. I used to use Shattered Crystal, but that's not necessarily a recommendation, it was a long time ago and I didn't compare too many (and during the days of 90 day gtc, when CCP didn't sell them directly). At the time though it almost halved the price. The difference now isn't so great, but it's still worth looking elsewhere

pretty sure you can't sell stuff on the market with a negative wallet. think you have to buy a 60d gtc from a reseller and then go sell it in the Timecode Bazaar http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=channel&channelID=544711

Hello Zwen Johen,
This is a great guide! May I suggest that it would make an excellent addition to our EVElopedia? It already has a lot of information for the new players, and everyone is welcome to contribute with their own articles and guides.

I see. When I checked GTC sellers they were selling codes for exactly same price as you can purchase them from account management page but then I'm wasn't purchasing them from Europe. Salpad makes a good point about VAT. If you are purchasing codes from Europe then take a look at reseller websites, they may be selling codes for cheaper!

The main difference is that a lot of the official resellers (shattered crystal, battleclinic deep space supply etc) will not sell you 2 plex, but rather sell you a gametime code, which is provided electronically by mail.
This can then be sold in the timecode bazaar or converted into 2 plex in game.
I understand that CCP now sells plex directly, so this may be an equivalent price, especially if they deliver it as an in game item to you - I've never tried it, so can't be certain, but back when they would only sell you a gametime code (equivalent of what the code resellers provide) they actually snail-mailed you out a scratch-off card, and charged you the postage for it as well, which meant the code was a lot more expensive than the online only distributors (never mind the difference in currency exchange which has already been brought up)
Now that all parties use electronic distribution, I think there shouldnt be much worry about increased postage costs, now its just a choice of do you want 2 plex direct from CCP, or buy from a reseller and get a gametime code, which can either be converted to 2 plex in game, or traded complete for cash on the timecode bazaar.

So that people stop posting "maybes":
Current prices at current exchange rates:
2x 30 day Plex purchased from CCP = 34.99 EURO = 29.97 GBP
1x 60 day GTC purchased from reseller = 34.99 USD = 21.89 GBP
Obviously if you are buying in dollars either way this makes no difference, but not everyone is in the Us? Shocking to some of you, I know.

So, I can purchase a 60 day time code for $34.99 (US) or I can use another method of payment and subscribe for the same 60 days at $14.95/month ($29.90).
So, why would I pay an extra $5.00?

You can't turn your subscription into isk, but you can with the game cards (you can turn them into PLEXes). If you don't need the isk, subscription is cheaper.
