Dear Santa CCP,
I have been good all year and not podded any1.
For ☠-mas can I please have a Shiny New Ship?
If its not too much trouble, can I have the Specs now please?
This should be in the November Patch!
Thanks

You don't follow the forums closely, do you?
Dunno who confirmed it.. think it was CCP Explorer.. but the Noctis should hit us at the end of NOV. I'm too lazy to search for it though.. use eve search please. New Eden needs a Public Feature/Idea/Bug-Tracker |

We are deploying the work we have done since summer in 3 releases; the 1st one in late Nov, the 2nd one in mid Dec and the 3rd installment in mid to late Jan. The deployment of Incursion is going to span over approximately a month and a half. Like all good fireworks it's going to start of with a teaser, contain a surprise and end with a big bang:
The 1st release contains a collection of player requests we have been working on alongside the main expansion features and that we could easily extract from the expansion code base. This includes: Rocket balancing, tech 2 ammo balancing, faction ships on the market, fighter bomber lag reduction, window resizing, camera offset, meta-item indicator icons, the Noctis, and more.
The 2nd release is a Christmas surprise; new development we decided to dive into but something players have requested. The Christmas surprise will probably be delivered in two parts...
The 3rd release are then the headline features of the expansion, including but not limited to the new Character Creation, the Incursion feature, and a big iteration on Planetary Interaction and EVE Gate.
Shiny ships, there is the Noctis. Perhaps there is more.

If I would have to guess I would bet that the DA-contest ship will make it till Christmas. Why? CCP pretty well knows how much work would be involved to create this asset in raw man hours once the contest is over. DA could also be slightly influenced behind the scenes to steer into some kind of direction CCP has prepared. As I did some 3D modelling myself some years ago I know that a pro (or some of them) with the right tools is (are) able to churn out a new ship (or 4 of them) within 2 weeks. I mean it's no rocket science...
Monday - morning - start browsing your design portfolio - lunchtime - meeting of art dep. to nail down the 3 missing races to go with the DA contest winner - evening - raw 3D meshes ready Tuesday - Thursday - modelling Friday - 3D meshes ready, texturing starts Monday - Tuesday - textures ready Wednesday - Friday - testing of models, refining where needed, adjusting the files for EVE (stats, descriptions, blueprints, aso...)
That's like 2 weeks of raw work for 5-6 guys for 4 ships. New Eden needs a Public Feature/Idea/Bug-Tracker |

Not so sure that the christmas surprise will be that: Remember the second contest has yet to be held. There are many other things the players have requested over the years that might take simular amounts of time.

You're absolutely correct it does only take a few short days to slap lipstick on a pig.
Now how long does it take to get a pig to "balance" on a teeter totter?

we'll know the answer to that question when they fix gallente being slow but given weapons that required speed to keep in range.

Hehe.. yeah, it's not so that we don't got several farm animals with cosmetics waiting to be trained on balancing on teeter totters already
As we're on the subject anyway.. is 'CCP Gamedesign' ever going to be on a repeating schedule with small changes at high frequency instead of big changes with low frequency? I would suspect the first would lead to faster and better 'trained pigs'. No?

Actually it looks like they started building a Tempest and then about halfway through they executed the ship designer and hired someone with talent. --Vel

How about any of the half-developed abandoned projects? That would have half the work done, maybe the new 64 bit database allow for some of them that couldn't before, I'm thinking about:
-Arenas: Appeared as link on Sisi but got dismissed because ships couldn't be un-destroyed, 64bits and no-recycling of ids should make that pretty easy.
-Stores: Never knew why got cancelled, they developed something that didn't accomplish what players wanted, then instead of fixing it they simply used that reason to release nothing instead.
-Treaties: The new sovereignity system was based with these in mind as a key feature to accomplish the diversity and allowance of small entities in 0.0 that was one of the main objectives expressed by ccp when redoing the system. Was cancelled for lack of time iirc.

i'd still like to see a t3 industrial added..... hulks dont cut it 0.0 anymore since 0.0 is not as quiet as it used to be. also some t3 frigs would rock. maybe even a tier 2 destroyer (something that can actually kill assault frigs) with a t2 equivalent (heavy bomber - allows for 2x bomb launchers + 4x torp launchers)

These Specialty Ship presents would be a lot more interest in - for me - if I had some right to another(if you paid a fat insurance payment) if the first were destroyed ... like an insurance policy that regenerated a ship where you med clone was ?
I don't really want to give anyone the pleasure of an exotic kill mail or risk cargo because of the "suicide gank me now" sign that flying one of them bears. If they were more replaceable I'd go cruisin in them more.

In short the answer is yes. I won't be the whole team since there are plenty of big things we need to finish (Incarna and the DUST 514 link) but about 1/4th of the designers with proper programmer and QA support with be working on smaller stuff next release. More news to come...
