Bah, I could have sworn that I didn't see any other threads about this. Should have looked harder I guess.

Ha ha ha.
I sense negativeness, not completely sure why.
Steam is the most successful on-line games distribution service. Successful in terms of revenue, and reliability.
Steam, are world leaders at what they do. Diurnal cycles of 1.5-2.5 million, with 30 million active user accounts, some people obviously understand it's positive aspects.

I worked with valve during steam's early development and initial release, and have been using it since. I'll tell you one thing; its success is purely because of the companies who backed it. If you were not forced to have it installed to play some of the biggest games, then nobody would have bothered installing it.
Granted, they have some really good deals, but if someone steals your account, you can lose thousands of dollars worth of games, and to valve this just means more profit, as you're required to re-buy all of those games.
It goes further, They glorify the idea of being able to access your settings/games from anyone's computer, what happens if you login with your friend's computer who happens to have a CS cheat installed? -ALL- of your games are now unable to be played online. Enjoy steam yet?
Dont even get me started with the fact it takes longer to load steam, then it does to load any of the games ON steam. It also acts as spyware, collecting gameplay statistics and selling it to other companies.
Valve is completely money-oriented, and has zero respect for its players. They used to be gamers, and developed some awesome games, but now they are purely out to rip every last dime they can from your pocket. Just look at what they've done to TF2 'mannconomy'.
Look what they did to l4d. They promised new characters, weapons, and infected, for free. Then they released l4d2 not even a year after the original, with all that content they promised. THEN, they ported all of the old content to l4d2. So all of the people who paid 60 dollars for the original, got shafted -hardcore-.
Unfortunately, this is what companies do in general. The only thing that a corporation truly cares about is the bottom line. Everything else is secondary to them. ----------
