lol after years of argueing, Pottsey might take victory after all.
I trained all the advanced learning skills to 5 as soon as they came out - even if they took 3.5 years to pay off - I have had a further 2 and a bit years since that of advantage... so getting another 5 mill sp to distribute is just a bonus.
If this exercise helps out newcomers to the game not to feel so disadvantaged then i'm all for it.

It has been a double win for mem but I wouldn't have ever predicted this anytime soon. I think Clarity made my skill plan end around 20 days faster and on top of ending 20days faster I get to reinvest those Clarity SP's in more charisma skills pushing my skill plan a fair bit forward. ______ How to Passive Shield Tank T2

Wow... It really has been a while since your post came out!
Well, I'm glad CCP's finally doing this change. Will make bringing my friends to this game a LOT easier.
"No, you don't have to spend the first X number of days training Learning skills. Just do whatever you want! Wait... wait... actually. Make sure to train Cybernetics to Level 1. Here, have these implants."

Let us all remember now the events that had passed, and remember that despite the bickering and polemic discourse, Pottsey was looking way more in the long term than the rest of us.
I'm sorry everyone.

Since I have queued up Clarity 5, I agree that we must give him the win after all.
Well played, Pottsey, well played.

Pottsey's argument has been proven wrong.
Presence 5 can't realistically pay for itself with "future skills". |

I had a skill plan that ended up 17 or was it 20days? Whatever the number it finished much faster as in weeks faster due to having Presence 5 then without. Didn't do Charisma V and amd fine with that. 4.7 Mill sp if good enough. But, what are your views on the Sansha?

Despite the troll in this thread I must correct a wrong. I never thanked Pottsey for his/her well reasoned posts on this subject.
When I first started playing this game I was even a bigger forum ***** than I am now and I researched many posts looking for as much information as I could find.
My enjoyment and progression in this game was enhanced by the likes of posters such as Pottsey, Lian Nuren, Merin, Shar, Shardale and Akita. While most of these people do not know me personally , they have enhanced my knowledge and enjoyment of this game.
For that reason I now offer you and all the vets who take the time to post on these forums my most heart felt (and druken) appreciation.
Thank you!

Pure luck.
If the learning skills were not being removed, presence V would hardly payoff to anyone.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
He was 'kind of' right, as his argument was about 'opportunity' not 'payback' - even Pottsey eventually conceded that the skill would never 'payback' it's initial investment for the majority of players.
By a strange twist of fate those players who did train it to V are now vindicated, but I don't think Pottsey or anyone else for that matter predicted them removing learnings from the game entirely in this way.
PS. I would also like to echo the drunked thanks for those vets who have helped myself & so many others on these forums.

More specifically, what is important to realize is that you never know when your skill plans will change. The claim that Presence 5 is useless makes various assumptions which in reality are almost never true. These assumptions are: 1) That you will never make changes to your skill plan 2) That you will never reach the end of your skill plan (meaning, that you will never run out skills to train which don't provide you a benefit towards your chosen profession). 3) That patches will never add additional skills.
Of course, these arguments will be pointless now with the removal of learning skills. In the end, Pottsey got the last laugh, as even IF the above assumptions hold true for SOMEONE out there, having trained Presence V would have been better for that person anyways. ----------
