Anyway, CCP wrote a short story on this called The Miner. Started with a miner leaving a station then getting followed by the thief. Thief waits till the miner finds a decent rock to mine and waits.

Think that sets the precedent for ore theft to be a perfectly valid occupation in the World of Eve.

firstly, i've never stole ore... i don't like doing it.

secondly, i am a pirate, and i do kill people, if you want to say i'm a bad guy, go right ahead, don't care, i'll keep killing people till i get bored of it.

thirdly, have you ever though that some people might get into the role? ie Vogon, he might be an empire ore thief, but i have a bit of respect for the guy, he goes about what he does with serious roleplaying motives, he is "vogon the thief".

as for the whole wallet/movie thing, and the car/supermarket thing, it's not exactly legal, but some people get away with it, just like some people get away with thieving ore.

look at it this way. if i ever had to mine again (god forbid it) i'd mine into a jetcan, and accept the risks, just like leaving my car in a public carpark or putting my wallet down on the floor in a cinema.

if someone rolled up in an indy and stole it, i'd go get a caracal and suicide him for the pure personal satisfaction of it, then get owned by concord. much like if i cought someone stealing my wallet, or my car (which has been attempted once) i'd smash their face in, to make myself feel better, and then be in full liability for a common assault case.

in a nutshell, eve is an open ended game, there's no "get from point a to point b and shoot some aliens/monsters/terrorists in the middle and you see the pretty end sequence"

eve has such a large player base because it's unique, you can be who you want to be, and do what you want to do. which career path someone chooses, has nothing to do with you, or warrents you making a dumba$$ post like this whining about people trying to justify what they do. everyone is unique, no one HAS to justify it. i kill people because i feel like it. people steal ore because they feel like it. people do missions because they like to. if you don't like the fact that your ore or your ship is there for the taking, sod off and play counterstrike.
