But honestly though he actually tells the truth as a recent noobie i can tell you that the beginner's experience is ****! EVE is not an MMO. EVE is a space simulator. It't not trying to be fun, it's tying represent what it might be like to live in a highly advanced space faring society. TBH if you have ever read any space operas then you know that on a day to day basis space is ****ing boring, it's too damn big and too damn dark and the things in it are too damn small comparitivly. So just sit back enjoy the soothing music and let your skills go up while you idly read forums and beginer guides.
PS. I wanted to post this on their website but the organization and registration is like a ****stain a 2 dollar *****'s taint.

Get out, we dont serve your kind here.
Go play your console if you want a game to pander to your needs and play itself without threat or difficulty, the rest of us like human interaction, a challenge, and using our minds. The game is limited only by what you can think of to do.
If you dont like it go back to Guitar Gears: Halo Wars of Honor like all the rest of the popularist nerf-herders.
Edit: And clearly if you think this is a space simulator, you need to train Physics to 1. This is not a simulator of real space. The only thing EvE simulates appropriately is 17-18th century piracy and gunboat diplomacy and it does it with honours!

So he went through all that tutorial, but never learned how to tackle, or neut? This guy seems a little dense if you ask me. I wouldnt want him fighting with me.
Oh, and as for the review in general;EPIC FAIL!

It's a shame the reviewer lost all of his weapons....'specially when his insured shuttle got 'sploded.
He probably should have played the game before reviewing it.

I don't think the reviewer was particularly terrible, I just think he has a pretty average perspective.
Generally your average casual gamer won't like Eve at all. It lasts forever, there can be long periods where nothing of particular interest happens to you, its complexity in certain areas can be daunting, and CCP tends to do a lot of things their own way rather than following the rest of the industry. Eve is pretty niche because of these things.
Don't get me wrong, I love all that, I just think his point of view probably isn't all that bad as an indicator for a lot of people. ---- I belong to Silent Ninja (Hopefully that should cover it). |

so this guys biggest criticism's of eve were its vast, cold, dark and unfriendly just like real space then? I also love how everyone reviewing eve thinks all you can do as a noob is missions, what about mining, trade, hauling, pvp, pirating and genuinely annoying people. On my first day i pvp'ed i failed at it but i had fun trying
My last point that it takes awhile to have fun wellyou can have fun from the get go and the whole point of things taken time to learn is so you keep enjoying for a long time to come rather than a week like WoW

Who the hell insures a shuttle? Who would get utterly devastated over the loss of said shuttle, plus the maximum two t1 guns in it's cargohold?
Why do I get the feeling that the reviewer was actually trolling the **** out of everyone?

If he was, it must have been the only successful mission he had.

This guys review is just shameful. In my honest opinion his perspective seems way too slanted - he is way to quick to judge the mechanics and content which specifies a simplistic view.
Like this quote 'You can choose from the Amarr, the Gallente, the Minmatar and the Caldari each of which has a unique back story. Each of which also has no impact on the game.' No impact? Pretty sure it gives starting skills, appearance and in some cases a RP factor.
At least Zero Punctuation's review was funny.

Hrm, he seems to know about some aspects but has blatantly not done the research on others.
Warning box before lowsec? IGNORE and complain! They were able to say what happened, so they weren't on autopilot. Also, the images are promo ones and do not show proof of actual gametime (ie screenshots).
Please note, this is the correct way to do a critical review as everything contained was at the time true.

I played EVE trial for an hour, then signed-up for a year. I now have 4 accounts.
I loved that EVE just tossed me into the wilderness, and all the complexity. This was before the improved tutorials that were introduced with Apocrypha. I ran away from the starter mission I was dumped in because I didn't know WTF to do. I couldn't even fire my Ibis's gun; I think I had targeted the asteroid the lone NPC frig was orbiting.
A bit later, the first person I really met was a Hulk pilot while I was out killing belt rat frigs with my Smartbomb Condor (no targeting necessary!). The Hulk pilot asked if I wanted to fleet-up to loot the ones his drones had dealt with. So I did, and collected a bunch of loot, and killed a few more belt rats.
The Hulk was getting full, so the pilot asked if I could haul, and offered me half the value of what he mined. He told me I could rip him off, but then he'd never trust me again. I jumped at the chance, went and got my Badger, and hauled ore for a bit. When it was all over the Hulk pilot paid me 7 million I think. That was quite a handsome payday for me at the time.
Ya, a real horrible noob experience in such a horribly cold, mean, and complex MMO.

Edited by: Ikka Sunto on 01/12/2010 02:51:07 To be honest, as a new player, the author isn't wrong in some of his criticisms. It can be a very lonely game-if you don't venture out of your online shell. But you really do have to find a corp or a buddy who plays to get the greatest enjoyment out of the game. Interaction with your fellow players is more complex than the usual MMO-style of "well there's four of us here let's go do a quest and then forget about each other." Getting into a corp is easy, there are literally dozens of corps that take newbies and will help train them. We want more people playing EVE, it makes it more fun for all.
The learning curve is steep, steeper than any I've ever played before, but after a month, I'm loving the game and its complex style. It is definitely not a game for everyone, but a Below Average score is a crime. The game is beautiful, with a strong community and a development group that clearly takes advice and suggestions. For those reasons alone it should be at least a Above Average or Great game. How many MMOs have died on the vine because of lack of community interest or devs not caring about customers? EVE won't go down like that.
