Hey, I'm new to EVE and I've just finished the exploration tutorial as a Minmatar, but I have no idea what to do now. My brother (who I'm playing with) went straight into mining missions, but I can't find any missions for exploration so I'm unsure as to what I should do.
Does anyone know where I should go? Any help would be appreciated!

Edited by: Tarasina on 03/12/2010 16:35:09 You don't need missions for exploration, just go out there and scan systems with your probes. There are agents who have the division Astrosurveying but I haven't tried them, I don't know what they offer.

Thanks for the guide.
I just scanned a random system, found and entered a wormhole, scanned and found a gas cloud place, but I couldn't harvest it. I guess this career is just hit and miss? I kinda like it though, it's fun.

Any WH site will be protected by sleeper ships and in ladar and grav sites they can take upto 30 mins to spawns so you may think its safe to mine/harvest but its not until there cleared.
Once killed they dont respawn though.
If your new to eve/exploration I would stay in highsec scanning for complexs which can drop faction goodness and T2 salvage from the overseers wrecks. The isk can be hit and miss but its gresat fun when ur starting off.

Yeah, stick to hisec if you are new, you don't want to get podded in WH-space.
Also, skip Magnetometric sites, only contain salvage materials and usually not worth the time. Radars are nice though, you can get from 10 mil to 40 mil per site.

Cool, I'll do that. I'm not sure how I know what a hisec place is though. I keep scanning in various places and finding only wormholes! Grr.

Upper left-hand corner of your overview shows the system/region/constellation you're in, and security status (level). Stay in systems that are .5 and above.

There aren't really missions that involve scanning. Mining missions are entertaining, but it's better profit for your friend to just actually mine than to do mining missions. Most people only do combat missions. Each agent has a corporate division they belong to - like administration, mining, public relations, etc. Each of these types of agents give a different distribution of missions - do a google search on it - and the more popular agents are the ones that give out a high percentage of combat missions. The combat missions give out much higher rewards, which is why everyone focuses on them.
If you want to scan, you just go out and scan. As a newbie, I suggest you first focus on getting some combat experience first, since many exploration sites will involve combat - most are guarded by NPCs. Then pick some type of exploration site you want to work with, such as radar sites, and train up the appropriate skills for harvesting stuff from it.
Most 1.0 to 0.5 high sec systems get all the exploration goodies sucked out of them fairly quickly. Look for highsec systems that don't have any stations - people are less likely to be there. Then, venture out into lowsec systems and wormholes later when you're ready to deal with potential PVP. In lowsec and in wormholes, any other players you encounter can and will shoot you, so be prepared.

Keep training your scanning skills, and get a good scanning ship. If you are just starting out the process will become MUCH faster over time with good skills and equipment.
