I've just typed in a bunch of ship stats in a spreadsheet, so I can actually compare ships (including base resists, peak recharge and so forth), mostly Caldari missile ships, and the 3 Guristas ones.
What's up with the Rattlesnake?
Both the Rattlesnake and its Gila litle brother has a 125 m3 drone bay. Why not give the Rattlesnake 25 m3 more, so it can carry a full flight of heavy drones plus a full flight of light drones? Shouldn't it be better than the Gila in all regards?
Likewise, what's up with only 4 tubes? I can see it with the Golem, it gets a x2 damage bonus. Kestrel and HAwk gets x1.5 kinetic damage. But the tube DPS output of the Rattlesnake has got to be really low.
Is it a good ship to fly?
I like the passive recharge, and the resists, and it could be fun flying a real drone boat (I like drones, and have Interfarcing to 5, and most if not all light drone support skillz at 4), but I'm concerned about DPS.
At least the Navy Scorpion and the vanilla Raven has 6 tubes. But they can only carry and launch 3 heavy drones.
So is each added 1 heavy drone bay capacity, equal to 1 tube hardpoint? Is that the implied balance?
As someone who prefers light drones (I've never bought, nor used, mediums, heavies or sentries, and I'd love to see a medium drone specifically optimized for anti-frigate usage, analogous to AML launchers), I'm not overy excited by this ship.
Am I overlooking something?

Sorry champ, you're wrong here. Both the rattlesnake and the gila have identical drone bays and bandwidths, but it's a 400m3 drone bay, not a 125. The means they can both fit 2 sets of heavies, 2 sets of mediums, AND 2 sets of lights. They aren't lacking on drone spewing power, not by a long shot.

Must be my lack of experience with using EFT, that caused me to assume it had only a 125 m3 bay. Thanks for clearing hat up for me.
What about the rest, though? Is 1 hvy dr. equal to 1 cruise missile launcher?

The rattlesnake, since the rewamp, belongs in the family of "split-weapon"-ships. In good company with the typhoon and the merlin, among others. It only has 4 missile launchers because it's supposed to mix the damage output of the missiles and the drones. Just like a 'phoon is supposed to mix the damage from projectiles and missiles.
Drone boats can be a blessing and a curse. Obviously if you are jammed alot it is nice that someone else (your little robots) is actually shooting instead of you. On the flipside dropping drones can often cause full-room aggro. Also, if you're using regular drones rather then sentries you loose alot of dps while your heavies are slowboating between your targets.

the rattlesnake is just a superdrake. insane insane insane amount of tank, no gank. Talking over 2kdps tank with no faction mods.
Its like an antimach.

cruise missiles + 5heavys/sentrys = 600dps+ depending your skills and fit
and with passive shield tank and missiles you wont have to deal with cap and tracking/range problems

Edited by: Florio on 05/12/2010 06:06:26 I'm really enjoying the rattlesnake. After more than 5 years in eve i thought i'd try out the lvl IV missions and wanted something ubertanked to learn the ropes.
I'm just using t2 mods, with 2 drone link augmentors, 2 omnidirectional tracking links, damage control, 2 ballistic control systems, with a sentry damage augmentor rig. I have max skills. The drone link augmentors and 5 bouncers enable me to quickly evaporate anything from the 50km to 95km range, while gardes take care of anything within 50km and hammerheads for the frigs. 4 ogres when needed.
I have no idea how well it does relative to other ships, but you may find it helpful to note my mission completion times so far (warp in to warp out): gone beserk 19 mins, worlds collide 50 mins, sansha spies 9 mins, attack of the drones 5 mins, the blockade 40 mins, right hand zazz 6 mins, stop the thief 9 mins. No idea if those are fast, and they were my first attempts, but I never got worried about shields going.

Edited by: T''Bag on 05/12/2010 06:13:32 Rattlesnakes should get 15% bonus per level to drone damage & hitpoints rather than just 10%, OR be able to field 8 drones instead of just 5. /thread

Rattlesnakes need a ROF missile bonus, not a velocity bonus. Velocity only helps torpedoes and even then you only have 60km range for javelins and 40km with faction torps. Golem is superior in every way to that with its painter bonus. The velocity bonus is useless for cruise anyway so Rattlesnake has to either gimp range or dps. |

Velocity gives you more than range. It reduces travel time to target, which reduces the chance that you fire an extra volley into a dead target if you're not paying attention. A RoF bonus increases the chance that you fire extra missiles into a target that will die before they get there. I know it looks good on paper, but extra RoF isn't that awesome when fighting at long range unless you're fighting big things that take many volleys.
