Seriously...
Why do some people "sign" their posts? Do they think others did not develop the ability to read their username under the avatar? It really bugs me. What is the point?
Does it make your post better? Do you get isk from CCP for doing this? What the hell...

I work in a redundant-free environment most of the time :) it's when I get on eveo forums that I get bugged. I debug myself after though. No worries.

well redundancy is part of the human nature. and a redudant system can sometimes actually be more efficient than a non redudant system. even in computer science. |

A vestige of when people wrote letters 'n ****. I think people do it because they are a bit pretentious, but here on EVE forums that is a minor sin compared to some of what I see.

Because they're pretentious ****s who think that the forum absolutely, positively needs to know who they are.

There's a signature feature built in to most forums, and i just use that. I only ever typed mine once in the settings.
Oddly enough everyone else here who signs their posts ignores that feature and types it again, for every, last, post. Those people confuse me too. Maybe they just like typing their name?

I fail to see your point.
But I did find a viable explanation: people sign their posts so they don't lose them amongst the others

It's part of a standard-formal format. Do you need to sign your name at the bottom of a letter? After all, the envelope most likely has a return address. It's not weird, in fact it's normal.

Under redundant: See redundant. ----------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it.

Because itĘs from people who know how to write (read that as pretentious if you like, I couldnĘt care less).
Because itĘs a subliminal code. You havenĘt figured it out yet.
And finally, of course, because it bugs some people and the people it bugs are fun to bug. Though, if this was the only reason for doing it I wouldnĘt do it.

You should ask yourself WHY people post using alts, but I guess you know the answer already.
And btw, there is a pratical reason to put something on signature. |
