Well todays live event was a terrible waste of time as around 600 capsulars converged on what ended up being a very small event. I hoped to join up with a fleet but had brang my assult frig as i was sceptical that ppl xing up would get an invite to any main fleet that formed.
I logged in maby 20mins before the event was schedualed to find a fleet formed and certian ppl shouting in bold letters to join on fleet finder. The fleet was bassed on standings so the majority of ppl could of course not find the fleet. These ppl where then told allso in caps to form there own fleet.
As i said before i kinda expected this but i was hoping some of the more experienced players would have prepared for this and known that at least 2 fleets where needed, even to split the forces between the two high sec systems.
How does this relate to the incursions, well it seems that a small corp like mine will strugle to get an inv to any major fleet formed and will have to try nit pick out the smaller sites before the blob reaches it. Of course we can arive at the main area but will be unlikly to recive any rewared for the risk we take.
The problem - Incursions is being released as the pve fleet content that eve has been missing for a while now and yet it seems that only the groups allready involved in some form of pvp fleet alliance activitys will be the ppl most able to take advantage of the system. Yes im mad. If today was any indication many of the players wanting to experience large scale fleet battles through the new content will have to wait the same amount of time as before its release.

Those events are made by devs for devs.
And its an axiom (A self-evident or universally recognized truth).
Its not a pve thing, it was taken from Aion as PvPvE.
Sadly those who sprouted this idea of incursion are not capable to create events which would allow everyone to participate and enjoy, and not only big corporations with characters of developers in them. This is also an axiom.

Hello tallou,
As explained by CCP Dropbear here,
"Live Events are very different to the Incursion feature that will release in January. They don't just lack some features, they're run in completely different ways and offer different experiences. They are of course related in storyline terms, but mechanically speaking, they're quite different."

I probably have overlooked this - but how do we know of an impending attack? How does one know a live event is staged? Is there a location where such events are posted in advance or does one just stumble upon it in the game by chance?

You're making alot of conclusions about Incursions based on incomplete knowledge.
However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs.
second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

CCP has relesed various puzzles (i think they are all pictures that have to be unscrambled) that tell the date and time of these events. There is a thread somewhere around here that has them all unscrambled already.

If you do not wish to spend time deciphering the puzzles I recommmend you join the 'Live Events' channel and not the fleet forming channel. I am not aware that people were being dropped from fleets or that good standings were a requirement to join up.When fleets are being formed type 'x (ship type) Shield or Armor' depending on which tank your ship has. Remember to drop your CSPA tax to zero and set auto-targeting to zero. Better to join a fleet via the 'Live Events' channel than the specific fleet channel.
The current attacks will be different to the proper Incursion ones that will be seeded in January 2011. Having said that the fleet that does the most damage/achieves the objuective will get the rewards from Concord. We certainly need more PvE content and I hope Incursion will provide it.
