I have stopped paying my subscription to take a "break" from eve (I payed by time codes). I cant play the game for awhile (I love the game!!!! I'm forced to not play). I was wondering how long will my account last in existence? Does it get deleted after awhile? I was hoping to get back in the game in February or March, will it last that long?

Eve doesn't delete unsubscribed characters.

Characters are guaranteed for 6 months. But as said before, they haven't deleted any characters yet.

They will never delete any characters, because they take up little space and because everyone would become insane if they did... |

My main account has gone for over a year unsubscribed and it's been around since eve was first released back in 2003. You're good.
To bad they did away with hibernating skilling up characters hehe.

Thanks! That's a relief, I thought My character would be gone once I came back to play.

They should however start to consider to delete inactive accounts that havent logged on the last 5 or maybe 7 years. Both to release names, remove alot of characters when you search for people etc.
If you only played eve for a few months or less in 2003. And you havent come back yet. You most likely wont either. --------------------------------------

term and conditions state they will keep the chars for 6 months,
I have let my acount go inactive for over a year and a half no problems. someone correctly pointed out that character information in the database is tiny and there is not really a need to trim those tables for space.
HOWEVER there is a bit of a movement to have all inactive accounts removed soley to free up the names as its getting to the stage every new character has a few numbers in it ---------- ----

I think they could delete chars with low amount of sp (Alts) on accs that have been inactive for a long period of time in order to free names.
I went 4 years unsubbed and came back with everything fine :¦

Trial accounts - maybe, but unlikely... RMT/bot trial accounts, on the other hand, might get characters deleted, but who'll want "askjfiajfkja" name anyway? (Well, there are few exceptions like Ankh, but everyoe knows how that ended) |

I don't think a deletion is necessary, though I agree with the idea that it frees old names up. I'd suggest making them "Defunct Gallente4398053" or something like that.

They should do with City of Heroes does. Release the names but don't delete the accounts.
Basically in CoH, once an account lapses (I forget after how long) you lose right to your name but your account stays intact and unchanged, even keeps the name for now.
Then when someone creates an account, the name the choose is compared ONLY to ACTIVE accounts to determine if it is free. Thus, multiple characters in the database can have the same name, but only one is active.
If the original owner of the name comes back, if his name stealing counterpart is still active, the returning player will be prompted to change his name as it now belongs to the new guy who claimed it fair and square. If instead the original owner comes back and no active accounts have the name (even if people have come and gone and taken the name in the meantime, but lapsed as well), he'll log on with no warnings and no idea anyone else ever had the name.
Mind you this means you will only be prompted to change your name if there is an STILL ACTIVE player who claimed it while you were lapsed.

While they're at it, maybe they could delete the 549,365,181,872,593 or so inctive 1-man corps that are sitting around taking up server load, corp name, ticker and office space (In turn causing the price of office rental to go up)

Correct me if I am wrong, but offices have bills which need to be paid. An inactive 1-man corp which doesn't pay the bills loses the office, correct? ----------

Edited by: Axel Strom on 06/12/2010 16:00:02 There's an automatic payment option
So long as there's money in the corp's account, they can continue hiring the office.
