Most modern games come with some kind of Achievement system.
But what if EvE had them too?
Post your ideas!

I say there should an achievement that you cant avoid getting. In some games there are literally achievements for things that happen AUTOMATICALLY in the game. In Front Mission evolved, there is a steam achievement called suiting up. This happens after the first cutscene...
So for eve.
Begin your journey - Log in to eve once.
Engage - Warp to a station or stargate.
Some fun ones.
Its a trap!!! - Commit a hostile action against a non corp member within 10 seconds of decloaking.
Doing your part - Earn 10 public decorations from an NPC or Player Corp.
Surprise!!! - Kill someone using an ORE ship.

I rather not have an acheivment system in this game due to the over complexity of it and of course acheivemetns forces players into things they're not comfortable doing.
If they ever do succumb to such system however
Explorer Acheivment would be the bane of many players.

+10 internets!
oh **** more worthless points!
I generally get more satisfaction from playing the game, and/or making my own achievements. (okay I did get sucked in by crackdown's do a barrel roll/flip/180/360 in a car achievement, although I probably would have just tried to do all that on my own anyways) the main achievements I seem to get are the ones like you beat this level, now you beat that level, okay you beat the game have useless points!
I like the eve system, some think it is isk, some think it is ships, some think it is sp, some think it is a snazzy hanger full of pimp boats, some like kill mails.

Achievements like the type you get in WoW quite simply ruin the game.
Achievements like in WoW have no place in Eve I'm glad to say.
Certificates in this game are ok because they are only linked to which skills you have learnt.

Kiss 10 different types of animal. Throw glitter on a person from each class. fly around the map and click on a person at every little village along the way. Catch 100 fish die in a fire

How many pets you collect. How many mounts you collect. Level stages of professions (cooking, blacksmith etc). For catching a rare fish. For completing a dungeon (this one can get you into groups to enter the same dungeon, without it, it can exclude you from groups). How many players you have killed (100, 500, 1000 etc). 1 for each region you have explored. 1 for each region you have completed a set number of quests in. Achievements for daily quests how many completed. Achievements come with titles sometimes, one type of achievement has high levels running around doing pointless low level quests they missed out. Achievements for reputations at exhalted.
I could go on and on, needless to say there are hundreds of them.

Achievement systems just lead the achievement farming. Certificates are daft enough and cause people to train useless skills because they want the certificate (eg amarr drone specialisation for the drone operator cert).
If you want achievements, create medals for your corp and give them out for things.

You forgot the ones that actually hard to do and reward something.
To make an EVE equivalent: Do this PLEX escalation in under 30 Minutes with no one In your Fleet using a Battleship/T2ship/Remote repper(whatever, thats up to CCP to decide)
Reward would be a special Pirate ship you couldn't get otherwise. Lore explanation is something like: Since you came with crappy equipment they thought you are no threat and didn't evacuate their most valuable belongings.
I think eve would actually benefit from stuff like that. Helps to create some diversity.
Or for your PvPs out there: Win a fleet fight while having less than half of the ships(the DPS whatever is a good way to measure fleet strength) Reward would be an UBER LEET TITLE FOR BADASS PVPs issued by CONCORD ;)

You know how eve's a sand box? And how you set your own goals? Your own "achievements" if you will?
Depriving people of that and adding in corporate constructed achievements just takes eve a step closer to the generic everyman mmo.
You think they'd have one for collecting corpses like the guy in the news the other month? Or collecting veld pre chribba?
Or is it more likely that all the achievements would be things like "visit every system" or "complete x mission n times"?
Eve needs to embrace the fact that it's a different kind of mmo and run with that, not try and take on every gimmick and fotm that the rest of the games industry vomits into birth.
edit: "achievements are great on xbox" no they're not, they play on people with OCD and without enough realiseation that computer games are supposed to be escapist fun. If someone can't write enough content for a game to be captivating\entertaining for a decent amount of time, adding in "find all the hidden skulls" is just the punctuation on their failure and people should stop giving them money.

No they aren't ok on other games either, they actually ruin normal gameplay as everyone's doing silly nonsensical things for no reason other than "achievements". As I said before, achievement stuff is just a silly excuse for lack of content. I absolutely hate them.
We already have killboards which are already an "achievement board", that's (more than) enough.
