I've been told by interceptor pilots who dared make the trip that the EVE gate gets cooler the closer you can get to it. The closest I have seen it was a loose orbit around the single planet in that system.
Has anyone made any really close bookmarks? Furthermore, at what distance can you approach the phenomenon without risking the safety of your ship and crew?

Edited by: Elve Sorrow on 14/01/2005 14:07:03 Try searching for 'EVE Gate' in the ingame map. You can't really miss it then.
EDIT:
And Graelyn, i went there, 'twas ok. Nothing special to be honest. Fancy system names though. And lots of Secure cans saying 'Enter Name was here', which i tried to blow up.

It's far, you only go 4km/sec and there's no warpable objects in the system.

afaik, the gate is only part of the background, and not really there... = you can not fly to it..
I hope thats not true ofcourse.. or maybe they did change it with shiva :) ------------- Most tired of thing atm: - Mods on the forum saying: "Please use the bug report page to submit bugs, the forum is not the place to post them." and then closing a topic. |

I don't think it's just background. There is a star and a planet in the system, and warping to them changes the heading of the gate itself from your location, suggesting that it has spatial coordinates and is actually out there.
I've seen a movie (Riddari's I think) in which a ship was flown into the phenomenon till it blew up.

There's some cool stuff in that system, but it would take 7 years to get to one particular object.

There is no way you can fly towards it, was approaching it for about an hour and didn't seem to get any closer.
(notice the purchase of a cheap disposable shuttle, just in case..)

really now, has anyone tried before the dual mwd nerf or in the early mwd times? If you did, I bet you have screenies... Or we could just wait for black ops and entered coordinates to warp to.

IIRC when you are in the system, the max speed of your ship does really weird things. Ultra-speed setups actually dont go very fast at all.
In a Dual MWD + 1 AB Tristan a long while back, my max speed got to something silly like 100 metres/sec, instead of 14 km/sec or whatever it was in other systems. -- jamesw Rubra Libertas Militia

well.. i tried pre-blackbird nerf which was in early mwd times when they didn't have a single penalty. 3 mwd's got me nowhere. -------------------------------------------

Edited by: Erty on 17/01/2005 09:23:17 I've never tried flying towards that thing but I know back in the days I tested having 8 MWD's on my scorpion and it went FAST. I could fly between planets in it so approaching the eve gate should've been no problem.
Somebody must've gotten closer to it?

Afaik its impossible, part of the system background.
Would be good to have some Dev clarification, and also would be good to have some nice toys for those who get there first, if you can... Perhaps a 10,000 year old ship, massive but with crappy stats (10,000 years old, what would you expect) for novelty purposes would be nice. --------

I recall having seen pics of people who where really close to it. Some corp went there on a trip (Pre-Exodus) and anchored lots of secure cans with their names on it
If its animated then its not part of the bg, it also doesnt looks like it was on the bg ---------------------------
