I'm looking at getting back into some PvP and wanted to try my hand with Low-sec piracy but I'm wondering about how kill-rights work, after spending a year in 0.0 it's somewhat new to me and I was wondering whether any seasoned criminals could shed some light on the topic for me. Once someone has a kill-right on you and IF they bother to hunt you down, are you allowed to shoot back when/if they aggress you? Once they fire, does it automatically go back to the normal rules of aggression or do different rules apply? Will Concord come storming in if the other player fails and you kill them again, can their corp/alliance get involved if you return fire and will you lose sec-status for rightfully defending yourself and sending them home in a pod? Thanks to anyone who can help with some/all of the questions.

Basically...
Some innocent newbie is belt-ratting in low-sec. You warp in and kill their ship. They now have 30 days to retaliate.
During this 30-day period, no matter where you are they can engage you without CONCORD intervening. Once they red-box you, you can fire back normally. CONCORD will not kill either one of you. Gate and station guns will not fire.
If they kill you, you do not get kill rights on them. Neither one of you lose sec status for this fight. I don't think that their corp would be able to get involved either. Don't quote me on that though.
Note that if your target is an outlaw (-5 sec status or lower) they will not get kill rights on you if you kill them. They are a legal target for anyone because they are an outlaw. ----- Ambush. Hit and run. Gank before tank. Speed is life. |

Thanks for the help with that, good to know now And myxx, I'll be based out of empire while doing roams through low-sec for 3-4 days and then spending the rest of the week refitting, replacing and repairing anything as needed

If the person you killed has tracked you down in high sec and you are in a fleet or with corop mates, they can still engage you, however, your fleet or corp mates will not be able to help you other than to give you reps.
Your corp mates will then turn flashy red also, they will not be able to engage your enemy however until he/she engages them first.

keep in mind, if they agress (red box) you before you kill them, they will not get kill rights, and you will take less of a sec hit.
so, rule of thumb... when you goto kill someone in low sec, delay killing them until they return fire (if possible) :)
less sec hit, no kill rights.

Some people are stupid enough to do weekend piracy with their missioning characters. Possibilities for patient loners |
