Originally by: Frosteye Personally though - I think this thing will be somehow useful in hacking the cans for the Supercarrier BPC. So bring your REP gangs with you to the Sansha sites kiddies, because I bet a million isk this ship will be the key to getting it. Just a thought before you go bad mouthing it more.
:
Now on to the said function. Are you seriously suggesting this will be mandatory to getting the BPC from a downed sansha SC drop? That would turn this ship from a "meh, nothing special but nice" to epic fail. Is one player supposed to sit in this and just wait doing nothing while the rest of the team kills the SC and enjoys a good fight? That would be pretty horrible gamedesign. ...
The idea is actually excellent - not by using the ship itself, but either the specialized hacking module (if it can be respawned like the probe launcher from the Zephyr) or any hacking module at all. I agree with you that requiring this special ship would be a very bad move as it dooms one pilot to uselessness or forces boring and needless coordination of moving this ship and a combat ship to the site of the battle.
But putting the MS BPC into a locked cannister that needs to be hacked solves one of my major gripes with that reward - that some guy finds the fleet, waits cloaked near the end boss, swipes the BPC and cloaks before anyone can target him (remember, that final battle likely requires some heavy firepower and has not much use for ships that can lock a CovOps before it recloaks). If you need to hack the can before you can loot it the fleet that was fighting has a chance to lock the hacker and kill it - thus it offers the opportunity to steal the BPC, but gives the folks who did the work a chance to actually keep it. Of course the guy looting it can still corp-steal it, but with the hacking it does not become a contest of who loads the can contents fastest and has the fastest reaction on the mouse.
As for the ship itself, I follow the "Oh dear, another hangar spinning toy" crowd. It looks great, but in addition to killmail-hungry gankers it is threatened by the very job it is designed for. Not only do many hacking cans spawn NPCs, some explode. Without tanking module you might be in a pod too soon. And as others said, if you switch ships around you might as well take a real ship there - heck, any frigate does a better job. I like freebies as much as anyone, but I wish the time spent making this ship would have been used for something that serves a better job improving this game. Let's all hope for a Noctis-like turn of event, the model is too pretty to collect dust in a hangar.
Still, even though it is a bit disapointing I give a hearty "Thank You" to CCP. Even if you did not hit my expectation full on you at least thought of me and spent the time to make it.
So, thanks :)

We started out good. The Apotheosis: There is always a time when you want to use a shuttle and getting a stylish one was a great idea. Further, getting one for every character and not account meant that there are plenty to go around in the rare event one should get popped.
To ok The Zephyr: Very practical for scouting Sleeper sites in w-space and has helped me immensely in exploring the different sites. I heard good stories about parking one next to a big mean Sleeper swarm and wait for somebody to probe you out.
To what theà? The Primae: A ship with even more limited usability that a low tier tech 1 industrial? I would never fly this ship for practical usage.
To nononoà The Echelon: This ship has no protection or mechanisms to hide from the hostiles that will surely be around guarding whatever it is supposed to hack. Add to this that hacking has a nasty tendency to trigger spawns of more hostiles just next to you. Not only would I never fly this ship for practical usage, as others are far better suited, but even if I did it would by all chances get destroyed in the process.

While I am in great support of more civilian or non-combat orientated ships it seems bit silly to force them into situations where they in no way can manage their task. The Echelon looks to me like some funky science vessel how about it did something to that extent?
Like a mining support frigate; comes outfitted with a mining laser/analyzer. Except it does not mine anything at all, instead it increase the mining rate of all other mining devices on the asteroid it is activated upon. With little (a couple of scout drones) to no defenses by its own it has to be constantly on the lookout for pirates.
With low skill requirements to fly it will encourage interaction between rooky and veteran miners.

Even better use for this ship would be the ability to hack an offline pos so we can go round and clean up empire and get some decent rewards doing it. It did say most known passworded devices so anything like GSC's etc should be possible.
This would turn the ship from a useless turkey into something actually worth re-activating all those expired accounts for |

Edited by: Tres Farmer on 10/12/2010 14:01:23 The work which went into creating this piece of art could have been better spent on either getting the contest BS finished earlier (and the 3 missing ones for the other races) OR by reworking all the other ships.. it's telling, that the actual Exequeror model wouldn't win a contest these days (same goes for Moa).
Thanks for the free ship though.

Edited by: Claire Gally on 10/12/2010 15:06:04 Edited by: Claire Gally on 10/12/2010 15:05:52 I dont get it... what would be wrong with making these ships "normal" ships with the same added "goodies" ?
Even with a slot layout and stats on-par with mere T1 frigates (and hell, why not even higher, after all it's a limited-edition ship after all), it would start being enjoyable to fly, because you could use it, in a limited extent, for other things than its sole original job.
But, as it is, being able to only fit one specific module meant for a very, very, very specific action, makes the ship OVER-dedicated to said particular job, and nothing else... Ends up being quite useless for 99.99% of the players population.
Anyway... Frigate hull, so it's something I appreciate (would have prefered being actually able to use it for something, but oh well)
Anyway... back to work! Claire

Guess most of us players were bad kid this year cause all we're getting is a lump of coal. Seriously, CCP. I love you, love where you're tryin to go with the game, but.. Xmas present? For most of the people that get this ship it will be useless. What is the point of a Xmas present that most of your playerbase can't/won't use? Try to create presents that satisfy more of your userbase otherwise just give nothing at all. A primae that can't even come close to what one has to move around in PI most of the time. The Echelon which looks like it will have a singular use to a small portion of the playerbase?
Also, regarding the Sansha Invasions. I play almost every day (yes, I like the game that much). But it seems because I live in the US (please don't hold that against me) that the closest I have been able to get to one of these invasions is 4 hours after it started. Not to mention how daily restarts for refreshing the universe often screws those who can't get on til much later. I know, you're working on removing daily downtimes, I just had to whine. Kazini Jax |

please put something "NEW" in like "ECM SHIPS" that fool your electronics by showing up on scan as say a Wolf, but really they are Somewhere between Falcons and Vagas.

I did not forget the Noctis, the same way I did not forget the Orca or any other ship that has been released with blueprints on the market and never as a limited amount "present". Besides, the Noctis has a well defined purpose that it manages very well.
In fact, a surprise release of a functional ship like the Noctis with blueprints and everything would be a much better present.

As much as I love a holiday ship, what is the purpose of this one? You can't scan with it so trying to find hackable sites solo with it is out the window.
So you need a scanner ship to first find the site. Since 95% of all Radar sites have significant amount of rats defending them, you either need a T3 with the scanning subsystem to do it all in one ship, or you need to switch to a combat boat once you find the site.
So why use the Echelon once you find the site? It can't defend itself, containers can't be looted while it has guards and any regular combat ship can easily swap a mid for a regular codebreaker and kill the guards.
One option would be to give it the ability to not get shot at by rats (not just Sansha otherwise Amarr space exploration would become pointless) and to be able to loot the cans while they have guards. You'd still need to scan the site and you'd be vulnerable to others, but atleast it would have SOME purpose.

I kinda like it - not the prettiest of ships to look at but some designs aren't anyway.
if the sisi stats are right for it i would have thought we would have gotten something more solid , i personally won't be using it but at least CCP are trying to give us something we can use.
so...... thanx

Hey CCP! I want a ship that actually has some use for free... this is a hacking ship that any real 0.0 or low sec pilot would never be caught dead in. Obviously because if they are caught in it they are dead.
Give me the BS, or anything else... we give you enough $$ each month, how about instead of trying to fix lag that never seems to go away you give us a ship that actually has some solid functionality. Hell I'm still waiting for a ship that actually is a benefit for it's race... I've yet to see it but so be it. Guess I will have to wait for next year.

Just thought, if it has a shuttle sized cargo bay it is ****ing useless, as Radar sites usually yield 300m3 upwards which means you need another ship to scoop the loot, it would be more usefull if you could fit it properly, or just given us all a faction codebreaker we could use on any ship..
