Going to have to disagree there, I didn't really think of it as a nerdgasm inducing trailer.
It wasn't bad, certainly, and those shots of all those reapers landed around London look cool, but why did they have to invade earth, I mean, really? I was personally expecting fleet battles, various front lines for the invasion, that sort of thing. Not all of it focused on earth.
Guess I'll wait until we can get some more info out of Bioware, but I don't really like this focus on earth's invasion that much. Doesn't mean I won't be getting the game though, I want to finish that trilogy, but I'm sort of disappointed at the moment.

Sorry... I REALLY want this game. The Mass Effect series is possibly my favorite single-player game, that I have ever played. -------------------

ME got worse from 1 to 2.. why do you insist it might get better for 3? :\
Sure, storywise it was better, but combat mechanics were complete and utter tripe.

Warning Mass Effect 1 and 2 Spoilers ahead:
Hitting earth makes sense, because after ME 1 the (Earth) Alliance was about to become the next galactic superpower. Either as a part of the council, or while leading a new human dominated council, but ressource-wise the alliance is still heavily dependant on Earth and the industrial capacity of the system. Not to mention that the mass-relay on the edge of the system certainly is a strategic advantage, at least until someone comes through the relay to invade.
The Reapers were also the ones who harvested human colonies, apparently to use the biomass of the colonies to build a new Reaper. Why they have such an interest specifically in humans was not really explained in ME2.
So in ME3 earth is attacked, probably in a surprise attack while most of the fleet was elsewhere. Beating them back would likely require a united effort of all races in the galaxy, even while some of them are very mistrusting to the upstart humans or the hostile which each other (Quarians and Geth).

while I do agree it that ME2 was worse than ME2, it was pretty much as worse as a BMW is compared to a porsche.

this is my unimpressed face
perhaps it's just me, i've grown jaded with bioware RPGs after ME1/DA:O when i realized that despite pouring heaping helpings of epic in, the games they create are remarkably linear and claustrophobic _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

i suppose it does, it's just not my cup of tea...i couldn't even be bothered with ME2 (gamercred--;)
however, i did hear about an elder scrolls 5: skyrim, which at least mildly intrigues me _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

Very much agreed.
They're also throwing way too many characters into the mix. Reminds me of the Batman movie sequels where they had so many major characters in one movie, that it wasn't possible to do any meaningful character development. ME2 was especially guilty of that, but DA managed to handle it better.

DA was also considerably longer..
And yes, I would certainly agree that ME2 was way better than many mainstream fps/etc.. I just think if the ME1 combat engine/skills engine was used instead, it wouldve been better.
An elder scrolls 5 would be nice, if they could figure out the interface properly (inventory is always, always the worst part of any given rpg.. so bad, that ME2 pretty much ignored it >.>)

Did we play the same Mass Effect? the first was a damn slugfest. It was good, don't get me wrong, but the combat sucked arse, it was slow and badly done.

Oh god YES I want ME3! Having to wait another year is just cruel.
Combat in ME2 was a bit of an annoyance after becoming accustomed to infinite ammo in ME1. Managing the heat level was more fun than having to I conserve and loot ammo thermal clips all the time. I don't mind special ammo for the heavies, but clips for regular weapons is just silly given the backstory... All in all, I think I'd prefer if they brought back some mechanics from ME1 (the awful inventory system excluded of course)
On the other hand, at least I didn't have to suffer the overheat bug in ME2. Don't know if they eventually got around to fixing it, last time checked they hadn't. After all, it's been a while since I played it.
Been thinking of doing a perfect playthrough of both games in preparation for ME3, maybe it's time to get started on that...

The best bit about the trailer is that the Reapers had only just gotten there. The carnage was from Cameron's government.

Many of the changes from ME1 to 2 seemed uneccessary. Like some new guy showed up and thought he could improve on perfection. I actually didn't mind the ammo change after awhile, though. Forces you to use more than one weapon.
Love the series, but hate how expansion packs are becoming the norm. Used to be things companies would do for free as a way of thanking fans, but now it's just a way to milk people who bought the game for more money.

Which is why I never buy games at release for full retail as there will be an eventual 50~75% off sale for the game with all dlc included on steam. Been that way for every major game to date except the latest clone of duty and I'm still not getting that one even if its only $5.

Hmm, looking forward to this.
I hope it will combine the gameplay quality of 1 with the story of 2. then it would be the most epic conclusion to a trilogy ever.
That is till they decide to make a 4th game to cash more money.
