I can't take the Mass Effect trilogy seriously anymore after the last boss fight in ME2. What. The. ****.
Also, +1 to the arguments of: ME1 was better. The plot from ME2 was a bunch of characters and an enemy coming out of nowhere.
I'm not saying I wanted to spend 3 games with Ash, but I'm pretty sure Shepherd dying was just a marketing stunt

Well, Shepherd dying was a plot point they could use to explain why you suddenly had a new ship and almost completely new crew, and why you had to go on all those missions to find people. Though marketing probably was at least somewhat part of it.

or the usual 'yeah and time went by blah blah blah.'
No, this way you can completely recreate a character again (me1 being 'new', you start fresh.. me2 they have to kill you so they can remake you etc)
I assume me3 will have something similar at the beginning. (i dont quite think they will kill Shepard again.. )

Nope. If you died in an ME2 play through you CAN NOT use it in 3. Anyone killed in 2 will not be back for 3. So getting no one left behind is going to be HUGE. I'm dying to see the effects of letting the Rachni live and reprogramming the geth. I'm probably one of the 1 or so percent of players who has a high paragon factor and kept the station. So i'm VERY intrested to see those effects on the game.
ME2 had a lot more cover required. This after ME1 was a real shocker. They started working on this right away and all we were waiting on is a launch date. We dont quite have that but if they're saying holiday 2011 it wont surprise me at all if its actually TODAY 1 year from now. I intend to order the biggest and baddest edition of the game they get. (hopefully it'll have a model of the SR-2)

In my playthroughs, the Rachnii get to live, and are friendly enough (or at least understanding of larger threats. The Geth, I reprogrammed, since they will, at the least, be a nuisance to the Reapers. I figure the more cannon fodder I can throw at the problem, the better, no? (odd that I'd have lots of Paragon points with that viewpoint, eh?) _______________________________

I don't think it will be possible to continue in ME3 if Shepard died at the end of ME2. I think Bioware confirmed that much earlier in their forums.
Since 99% of the people would just want to continue with their old Shepard, it does not make sense to put in an alternative character for just 1% of the player base. Please keep in mind that all characters are fully voiced and a second voiceover just for an alternative character would not really make sense IMHO.

I just came across ME1 ultimate edition (includes a DLC mission which I installed, Bring Down the Sky).
Thus far my thoughts:
- I like the cover/sprint/powers dynamic. - The inventory management is horrendous. - Leveling up provides choices. I like choices. - Dialogue options are interesting. Sometimes even funny. - Secondary characters seem interchangable. - Driving the buggy around gets old fast. Granted the thing is supposed to be an assault vehicle, it still feels like it's overpowered to be one-shotting the big geth. - The codex is actually interesting. There's so much information about the galaxy and it's races. Really good, even if its just a precise of major factions, and the barest of overviews on technology, I still like that its there, helping to understand maybe why things are the way they are. Clearly a lot of thought went into the creation of this universe.
So - the action elements are to my liking. The inventory sucks elephant dung. The storyline is (thus far) pretty damn intriguing. This is the kind of epic sci-fi I love.

I am not playing anymoreof this **** even if its free. a waste of time everytime a battle is coming, you will see some chest high walls to warn you of an ambush. the charachters have sex with cloth on, and the mining is a ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. wish in a way you cant avoid if you want any descent ending. The storyline is the only plus, and even that has got more loop holes than a swiss cheese

Sure, storywise it was better, but combat mechanics were complete and utter tripe.
You say that as if ME1 had any good feature other than the story.
I never got around to playing 2 myself, as 1 went from the hardest sci-fi I had yet seen in a game to KILLER ROBOTS FROM BEYOND SPACE AND TIME!!!!11one. -

Originally by: Meiyang Lee Going to have to disagree there, I didn't really think of it as a nerdgasm inducing trailer.
It wasn't bad, certainly, and those shots of all those reapers landed around London look cool, but why did they have to invade earth, I mean, really? I was personally expecting fleet battles, various front lines for the invasion, that sort of thing. Not all of it focused on earth.
Guess I'll wait until we can get some more info out of Bioware, but I don't really like this focus on earth's invasion that much. Doesn't mean I won't be getting the game though, I want to finish that trilogy, but I'm sort of disappointed at the moment.
It's one trailer dude. It's on Earth because that is the most awe inspiring and shocking.
The entire game won't be set on Earth.

No but i fully suspect that to be one of the two major hot zones. The citadel being the other.
They wanted a human reaper because it's humans (and specifically Shepard) that have been giving them trouble like no one else has in a VERY long time they have to understand them to stop them. So far they cant and because of ME2 they STILL cant. For the reapers to succeed in their plans they have to STOP humanity as a whole and Shepard in particular. That makes Earth and the Alliance fleet The MUST kill target. The Citadel which was revealed in ME1 near fully (except for the keeper thing) is the other hot spot that they MUST have to complete their objective.
So: Expect fleet battles, expect multiple invasion lines. But expect your two prime must win targets to be the Citadel and Earth.

Mass Effect 2. :D
It's full of sf cliches, disastrous dialogues ("Argh I'm dying") and 100% railroading. It's a lame excuse for an RPG and a mediocre shooter. The whole point of a game is to hook up with virtual women. Yawn. Definitely not looking forward to Mass Effect 3.

to hell with the haters. I only need to live one more year and I get to play ME3
now, everyone go back to discussing how ME's way below your standards, it's knees are way too pointy and it's just not RPG enough of an RPG for you.
(sniff sniff it's so terrrbl, how will you ever survive. how dare EA make such a horrendous series void of any enjoyment. I bet no one even plays it. Mass Effect? What's that? Sounds like some awful failed attempt at game making.)

Edited by: Jhagiti Tyran on 15/12/2010 15:58:09 I cant see how anyone could say the combat is better in ME1, you should try insanity on ME2 without the crutch of overpowered gear or powers you have in ME1 like immunity or barrier specialisations for tanking or Biotics that could pwn a whole room of enemies, many of the battles are extremely difficult and as very few powers work 100% of the time you need to focus and combine them with the squad and lack of ammo makes it hard to just hunker down in a defensible position and one wrong move or a second to long out of cover and you are dead.
Turning up the difficulty on ME1 just meant that you had to stand shooting through lots of HP after you knocked them over or threw them through the air.
The other thing that makes Bioware games awesome are the soundtracks, almost every piece of music in the recent games in particular like Dragon Age and ME2 are fantastic.

I love the mass effect series, even read the books.
But the final boss of ME made me: I just thought it was a silly boss.

ME1 : RPG with some 3rd person shooter elements ME2 : 3rd person shooter with some RPG elements "Better", in this case, refers to "not yet another cover-based shooter" part. _

A cover based tactical shooter is still way better than two characters, one NPC one player standing in the open or one side floating in the air shooting at each other for three minutes trying to break each others immunity or barrier. The fights in ME2 just feel more exciting as well with many of them actually feeling like the desperate fight for survival the story implies, I can only think of one fight in ME1 like that and that's the Krogan Battlemaster on Therum.
I love both games I just wish combat in ME1 doesn't feel as dull after having played ME2.

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 16/12/2010 19:01:08 Has there been any word on whether or not DLC will carry over to ME3?
Doing another playthrough of 1 and 2 so i have a savefile ready, but looking at all the DLC for ME2 is a bit staggering, and from the sounds of it they're planning on releasing many more before ME3 comes out.
Would be no big deal if it was all just stuff secondary to the main story, like the DLC for ME1, but with ME2 there's new squad members and the plot between 2 and 3 is supposed to take place in DLC

No idea how this will work out, tbh. The Overlord and Shadow Broker DLC's could be considered bridging ME2 and ME3.
The numerous weapons and armor packs have no consequence, but I too am wondering how your squadmates from ME2 will carry over.

The DLC squadmates might not carry over to ME3 as they are both basically mercs, Zaeed is just after cash and Kasumi needed Shepards help in a heist so they could drop them easier than some of the ME1 squadmates story wise. I would like Zaeed to see Zaeed make a comeback though.
