Edited by: Liandra Xi on 13/12/2010 09:28:45 In a dev blog a month or more back, CCP slated a number of changes to Planetary Interaction, including a revamp of the UI to remove the "clickfest" syndrome of PI, as part of this was mentioned an "Extractor Control Unit" that would allow you to restart all your extractors on a planet on the same cycle all controlled through 1 place instead of having to manually start each one.
These changes seem to have been forgotten since then, and CCP has not mentioned them once in all the patch notes and dev blogs released for Incursion. Since the changes were not in Phase 1, and have not been listed in Phase 2, can CCP reassure that those changes will be included in the 3rd and final phase of Incursion in January? Or have we been screwed once again and these changes will drop back to the supposedly urgent list of priorities the CSM has?
When I find the dev blog that originally mentioned the changes ill edit it in, meantime has anyone else seen anything to indicate the PI changes are still going ahead?

Edited by: Liandra Xi on 13/12/2010 10:13:14 Ah I hadn't seen that reference, however with CCP's history of "features" dissapearing from patches just prior to their release, I would very much like a Dev to officially confirm they will be in the january release, rather than just hope and pray. Mainly I wanted to highlight that there many ppl waiting for these changes who will be very annoyed if they aren't in the jan release.
sidebar: that link also says the Noctis was in for the 3rd release, so that must have been bumped up?

Anyone else seen anything to indicate the PI changes will be in the 3rd phase of the Incursion patches? So far we only have 1 tiny quote to go off that actually mentions PI changes for the 3rd patch, all other mentions of the 3rd patch mention the sansha invasion and the character creator but not PI changes.

Hello Liandra Xi,
To the best of my knowledge, Planetary Interaction improvements will be a part of the EVE Online: Incursion 1.1.0 expansion, to be released in January 2011.
More information on this and other features can be found on the Incursion website and in this dev blog.

Actually no. I dabbed a little bit in PI. The part where you set up your extractors create your link etc, is actually a decent mini game, at least I enjoyed it on the one planet I tried it. Too bad you can't possibly play it more than 30 minutes and that you are limited by skills in the number of planets you can play it on.
After you are setup, the gameplay value of PI is a big fat zero (at least the extraction part). Doing one click or twenty got no gameplay value whatsoever, not a picogram of thinking is needed. They managed to create a new feature involving even less thinking than mining and even easier to macro.
What was the reasoning behind that I don't know. No one can't possibly think that repeating exactly the same clicks day after day is somehow good gameplay. I'm dumbfounded really.
Someone at CCP forgot that games are supposed to be fun, and the others at CCP are as guilty of letting that half assed feature slip in...
I would really rather have them shelve the extraction part of PI and reseed the stuff producted from it till they found a way to make it enjoyable as a game.
Transforming twenty clicks in one, doesn't make for a better gameplay. I just make a chore getting done faster. I'd rather do something fun.

it is fun making 1.5B a month on PI stuff (multiple accounts) so I can feed the pvp account with ships. Granted, the clickfest is a pain, but with the upcoming changes, I think it will be much better. I can do all of this because of gate camping gives me lots of time. I would like to think that they had more in mind and we just have not seen it. For instance, when Dust comes out we will need to hire people to guard our facilities or they may be attacked. To me this is not a mini-game that you quit playing Eve and do PI, but just another revenue model. If it is supposed to be a mini game...whew, I need to quit now.

Edited by: Skulldilocks on 14/12/2010 20:57:08 You do realize that once PI stops being soul draining work, more people will do it and the supply will go up, thus lowering overall profits, right?
Edit: Plus, with the way things stand right now, I would never hire dust mercs to take out a PI outpost. The effort of the FPS players to destroy a command center that cost me maybe... 10m to set up? If that?
DUST will need more targets than PI to be worth the trouble. Or PI needs to become alot more profitable.

It's persponed untill the rest of the skill system is removed. Too many new players have complained that it's just too much to cope with.

Agreed with all above that call PI soul-draining. Don't necessarily agree that PI is automatically supposed to be fun. Mining isn't fun. Grinding a mission isn't fun. Getting podded isn't fun. Getting scammed isn't fun.
There's lots of stuff in this game that is not fun. I won't ask the developers to make PI fun, but I will ask them to fix it so I don't get carpel tunnel.

Edited by: Liandra Xi on 15/12/2010 13:56:09 Thanks to CCP Spitfire and CCP Navigator for the answers and clearing up why its not on SISI atm, I feel much reassured and wait with baited breath for the 3rd phase of the Incursion patches to go live. :)
Edit: To ppl saying the only fun part is the initial setup, theres also the daily movement of goods from one planet to another (in my current setup anyway) as well as balancing excess goods produced across all your planets and tweaking your setup here and there to add an extractor or processor to use up some extra minerals produced or the like. Still the clickfest to restart extractors is a joke, it takes me 20 mins of clicking each day for my 10 planets just to restart them all, im looking forward to doing this in 5 minutes after the changes go live.
