I dont get it. u start at 0.0 then u get a 0.0175 gain or something and it goes up. the maths does not add up. 0.0 + a percentage = 0.0. also i recently lost -0.5 sec rating in a SB accident around a gate and ive been killing cruisers etc and yet i cant get my rating back up to 0.0 is there some trick to it or is it as impossible as the math here?

Edited by: Joshua Foiritain on 15/01/2005 18:31:47 You get a certain % of what you have left between your current status and 10.0. So when at 0.0 sec status youll get a % of 10 added to your sec status.
Also; the only real way of getting your sec status up is by hunting 750k+ Battleships in 0.0.
Missions battleships never seems to affect my sec status ---------------------------

If you shoot a rat your sec goes up .0001% If you shoot a player your sec goes down .5% Kill a player 2.0% Pod 13.0%
Nice balance :)
My numbers might be off a decimal, but who cares ? It's still lame! So be a pirate! ----------------------

My sec status has gone up from mission rats but very very slowly.

The gain you see (0.0175 in your case) is 10 times larger than the value you add to your sec status (it has to do with percents). So you are adding 0.00175 to your sec status. If you had a 0.0, you now have 0.00175. The game only displays 1 digit after the decimal, so it shows as 0.0 still. Repeat the killing 57 more times (and remember, you gain 1 increase per 15 minutes) and you get to see 0.1

Killing mission rats does increase your security, but it is "irregular". My estimate is that you have a 50/50 chance of recieving a gain, and yes, I am taking into account the 15 delay between gains.

like josh said, the only real way if you want to seriously give yourself a sec boost is to hunt 750k battleships in 0.0, then your sec status will fly up as they give a 0.4% boost.

not always they dont, it seems too me. i would say 70% of the time they seem too give 0.4% but not always.
i have even seen 100k rats give 0.4% aswell.
its kinda bugy out there about it.
what i wont too know is how too get it past 5.0 and why is it caped at that..
that ****es me off.

The best way to increase your security status is to find a nice piece of 0.0 space and go run the belts. Kill every NPC you can. Every 15 minutes, the server gives you credit for the highest percentage NPC you killed during that time. So if the best was a .4, that's what you get. If you only kill the little 100k's, you might only see a .02%.
I have never received higher than a .2 for killing 100k rats.

thats koo i guess but im already 20 jumps in. how flipen far do i gota go befor i find these biger rats. that system sucks. now i gota hunt in alliance space..
i dont like that deal at all. im already taking alot of risk for being out here as it is. when i take on dubble spowns or 3 BS even if they are 750kers. that is a hell of a tuff fight for me. i can easly lose against 3 bs even two can get me if im not carful. the points should keep climing for encounters like that.

Really all you need to know is what was already said - 750k BS are bugged (perhaps deliberately) and give approximately .1 to your negative standings. This is the equivalent of the sec loss you get from attacking a player in secure space (but not destroying his ship or podding him).
Any other rat, even the 1 million, 1.5 million and higher gives roughly ten times less then 750k. 750k rats can usually be found really close to empire so they're not too tough to find, you may need to kill a few lower rats to get them to spawn, try Y-MPL and surrounding systems, usually pretty safe as 0.0 goes (which is pretty damn safe).
Where does this leave new players? Up **** creek without a paddle. You'll have to kill more then 10 cruiser rats, over a period of 2.5 - 3 hours to match our 750k battleship rat which we can kill in less then a minute. Such is the state of CCP's security status system and most probably one of the reasons you find newer people resigned to -10 sec ratings, ganking in empire and with no incentive to improve and / or go legitimate.
