Apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum...
I have just upgraded my PC to AMD 64 My mobo is a Abit AV8 and my CPU is an AMD64 3500+ (939 pin), 2 X 512 DDR400 Geil Ram
When I run eve, the CPU utilization shoots up to 100%, Reloaded XP and Eve Anyone running a similar config that could give me advice?
Many Thanks

Same with mine. EVE is just a CPU hog.

Yup, Eve grabs everything it can get, kinda like a fat guy in a supermarket sweep.
Lack of Hyperthreading unfortunately seems to make the symptoms more acute, I definately notice a decrease in responsiveness in windowed mode on my FX55 compared to my 3ghz P4

Sorry guys, but you should not take CPU utilisation as a guide to performance. If no other process wants to use your CPU, then the foreground process [Eve perhaps] will use it all.

It's perfectly normal for Eve to hog the CPU when it's the program in the foreground - that's what all the programs do. Some just don't have as much to do, and so you may not notice.
As for performance, I would imagine you've got driver issues.
I'm running the game on half the box you've got, in windowed mode, and I've never had a technical problem with Eve. - -

You are exactly right. I run EVE windowed and always have FireFox (web browser), winamp and TeamSpeak running. And I never get client side lag, except if I load a large Flash animation in FireFox (the Flash plugin sucks system resources like nothing else). --------------------------------------------------

Eve isn't anything even remotely close to a CPU hog. Hell, I wish it was. . . maybe take some heat off the video card.

To really see if you have a performance problem try running 2 EVE accounts in windowed mode, 2 browser windows and excel at the same time. I do it all the time and don't get any performance issues, even if I'm in a small fight with the other account. Only time I got performance problems was when I tested ripping a DVD movie at the same time
I'm running an AMD 64 3000+ with 2x512mb DDR400 and a GF FX5600. Need to upgrade the graphics card "soonish". |

Press ctrl. + alt + shift +m
If you see that:
Fps: unlimited [error: 21A-b, bufferoverflow']
I can understand what you mean... in any other case your cpu's trying to reach the next higher frame... i guess.. ---------------------

What only?
I can watch a DvD, re-render a 5000mb bmp, deframete my two hardrives at the same time (yes with IDE devices!!), run 3x Eve online at the same time (+100 fleet battle) and run 3DMARK 2007. IF you can't your PC sux bigtime and you should stop playing eve... doesn't make sense at all. ---------------------

Unfortunately there is ONE thing that eve sucks at: Sound. Go into a belt, fire up your 8 miner 2's and launch your drones. Have some rats firing at you. Framerate drops like a rock. Turn off sound by CTRL-ALT-F12 and its smooth as silk.

I recently upgraded my home games machine to an AMD64 3400 based system, and I notice now that in Task Manager EVE never takes up more than about 45% CPU, no matter what I do in the game.
Running in windowed mode, XP Professional SP2, 1Gig DDR2-400 memory, 1280x960, ATI X800 gfx card.

Thx for the replies guys :)
I've worked out what the problem is!!!
Running 2 monitors on a MSI FX5900 Ultra Eve on the primary monitor runs at approx 90 fps Move it to the secondary monitor it drops to 10 fps
Least I now know it aint my new mobo/cpu :)

Hyperthreading, in tests, showed to decrease CPU performance by 2% and that's it. The main thing is that not many applications make use of it. Those that do get a nice speed boost but those that don't suffer. Eve doesn't ;).
I've got the same system. Try running eve as windowed 1024*768. Mine only uses about 50% CPU like that most of the time.

My eve uses 50% cpu but that is because eve doesnt support smp :) not that i mind then i still have plenty of power to run alot of other things while playing eve in windowed mode.

I know apps aren't programmed to take advantage of it. Windows is though so running multiple apps makes your pc more responsive even if the Amd processer runs each individual app faster.

I run a gig of pc2700 ram and a 3200xp + AMD with a 400mhz FSB. Only time I get bad performance issues is in fleet battles. But I think everybody does.

everyone get FX-55's and overclock them... and dont forget the SLI and 2gigs of RAM
Should be no problems with EVE then i wouldn't think. ----------------

Have that set-up.
You'd be surprised. Still seen very low framerates with it on occasion.

I've got an amd 64 3400+, socket 754, 1 gig ocz 400 ram and a x800pro vivo board.
I run 2 windowed instances at 1280 x 1024 without problems. Refresh rate is restricted to 60 as I'm using a flat panel.
Performance is quite ok for me, my rig is only slightly overclocked. Tbh, runs like a charm...

Easy solution......
BIN THE AMD... They SUCK...
Get some nice Intel chips... (pref Xeon...) Then see the machine eat anything you throw it...

It's perfectly fine for your CPU to run at 100% whenever you have a game running. Don't worry, it's completely normal. I'd much rather be worried if CPU would not run at 100% with a game active. It would mean that the game doesn't use your CPU at full efficiency. Something would be quite wrong in that case.

Windows - always prefers the primary monitor for any D3D app :-( - longhorn will make it so it don't care - but that is too far off to be useful, and needs even more serious equiptment than what we have now.
so yes - just keep eve on the primary

kill off the sound, that seems to be a major factor to it, for me anyway. also as seeing as everyone is comparing sizes, i run eve on 3500+ amd 64, 3 gig ram, gforce 6800 coolfx, and i got no problems
p.s. ( the 3 gigs, i know i got no use for it, was a present from someone who didnt know how much i needed )

Can I have your stuff ?
Edit : BTW I'm thinking of getting an Nforce 4 mobo with an AMD 64, at least 1Gb of Ram, GeForce 6600 GT...and all the nice Sata drives that goes with it (me thinks a dual 80Gb with NCQ, in raid 0 mode).
