Edited by: Boxless on 16/12/2010 23:08:24 Since I am unable to make a thread on the fansite and ask, I will ask you scholars for the history and the reason that the fansite that starts with a 'K' is censored on this forum, while no KBs or any other language is.
I find it astonishing that the name of a fansite is worse than, KBs, as well as any manner of language or illegal RMT url.
I am NOT questioning moderation, I am simply asking my fellow players the history that that site has had in relation to EVE-O forums.

Owner of the site got permabanned from EVE. Details are highly controversial. Discussion always lead to flamewars. One of the simplest anti-flamewar methods was to simply censor the name of the site//pilot. _

It's a good story. It has to do with hacking, free sabre bpos, BoB and developer interference. Ahhhh, the good ol' days. - It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". Gameplay is open ended, and you make your own story. Unless you're too afraid of 'pvp grief' to do anything relevant |

tl;dr CCP t20 uses devhax to give T2 BPOs to BoB, Kugu blows the whistle and gets permabanned for outing a dev character (amongst other things). CCP t20 apologises and removes the BPOs, and gets a slap on the wrist.

Could also have to do with the fact that Kug engaged in activity which is considered illegal in many jurisdictions to the detriment of any number of players and hence CCP does their part to keep the plebs away from his site.

Oh, that's nice of them. I wonder what other law-breaking websites ccp censors based on allegations of past criminal activity. What? None? Wow, that's amazing.

Point one out to them and maybe they will (also remember that EULA doesn't mean law), until you do you really have no basis to rage.

Its pretty simple and comes down to,
CCP dev handing out BPOs = questionable business practice nothing unlawful.
Hacking = a beach of criminal law in many countries.
so breaking the law trumps questionable business practice.

What's the point of the censor anyway? All you need to do is quote it to see the heinous word in question. Baffling... Suggestion: Remove the "new topic" button from everywhere apart from the list of topics section within a subforum.
That'd save those with chronic hand/eye coordination some face. |

CCP were upset that they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar, and filtered out his name in a futile attempt to make it harder for people to know exactly what they did.
They will, from time to time, claim it was censored because an obscure character from a Japanese hentai called La Blue Girl has that name, but given that there are characters in game named Niart Epar (read it backward), that's pretty much crap.

1/10, try harder.
I imagine the reason K stays banned is an attempt to discourage hacking as a method of metagaming.
For the average player, that is a good thing, as their forums are less likely to be hacked.
For SPAIMASTERS and of course K himself and his fanbois it is a bad thing.

The site in question used to be like the wikileaks of EVE. It exposed developer misconduct and just like wikileaks getting their domain censored by the US government, the name of the site got censored here.

It is funny when BOB(IT now) trying to shift the attention to the public, so you want to say that when CCP secretly give free T2 BPOs is nothing but hacking is a big deal? Last time IÆve checked hacking accounts/forums/etc were players responsibility. It seems this is not apply for CCP favourite players/alliance, is that what you want to say?

But then again, its always easier to hide a problem than face up to and fix one.
You must remember that Kugu didn't exposed 1 Dev (T20) characters but then started actively hunting the CCP employees characters and exposed them, forcing the owners to delete them. CCP policy require that if a character get found as being owned by a CCP employee it should be terminated. The employee get to create a new character with the same skills and properties, but all the contacts with former corp and alliance mates or in game friends should be terminated.
I would hold a grudge forever with someone doing that to me when I have done nothing wrong.
So, exposing T20 was acceptable (even if there are serious doubts on how he has got the info), but then exposing innocents members of CCP staff was way beyond what was bearable.

Edited by: RedSplat on 17/12/2010 15:54:11 Hi, you have questions?
THIS THREAD WILL SELF DESTRUCT IN 10 9 8 7
It all boils down to this:
CCP felt/feels K.com is bad for its PR. At the time of the t20 incident where a CCP employee was caught and exposed as interfering in the game for the direct benefit of Band of Brothers alliance (now IT alliance) CCP reacted to the explosion on the EVE-O forums by censoring his (K's) name, banning his accounts and then created the IA (Independent Affairs) in response to the player backlash to how the situation was dealt with (and the fact it would have never come to light without exposure by another player)
Curiously members of BoB proved to be complicit/colluding with T20 in Band of Brother were not banned and remain unpunished. No real attempt to take into account the profits made from the T2 BPO's obtained was made besides deleting them; in those days T20 BPO's were incredibly rare and won by random lottery, this was before invention.
K.com still exists to this day and while CCP's public relations, resources and understanding of INTERNET PEOPLE has improved there are still elements at the company that see Mr K as a threat and the T20 event as justifiably a PR disaster- one they dont want current or potential players to know about.
Originally by: Kiram Weren't there trojan like dataminers associated with K's site as well which helped him get the info?
One moment, I'll get CSI Miami and they can write a GUI in visual basic to find out
By the way, K.com is just a bitter vets support group where we can talk about in game events with less signal to noise than the official forums and without being censored by CCP for discussing things they dont want aired.
Its the same as every spergy fan site on the net really.
