Originally by: Faolan Fortune The only thing that Amarr has that other races hasn't is the metallic plates on his head... for now anyway.
Well okay the facial features are a bit different across the races but you could achieve the same effect with any race.
The Amarr ladies don't have an option for metal head implants!
Anyway the (4th?) version of the portrait remake tool doesn't have a lot of options compared to the one before that, it's far more restricted. In spite of the nice results you can get there's also a crapload of bugs; when I see the progression between the first installment (around october 6th) and now I doubt it that CCP will iron all this out within a month (ETA: mid/end january 2011).
What's also a bit frustrating is that CCP doesn't have a list of registred reported bugs, so you have no idea if they any intention to fix it or noticed anything at all. They just take the creator from the server and next time something has changed .. or not.

that's Intaki, Gallente or Jin-Mei bloodline?
I can't test the new creator myself but want to make a new character now. Would like to know how will they look. If anyone can bring an example of each...

I'm very happy with the new (female) Civire look, I think they have the nicest faces, although the hair still doesn't always work very well. Too bad not all the bloodlines look as good.
Here a sample I made before applying a lot of make-up. ________________* - If you're in favour of a bloodline change please vote in the Assembly Hall in this thread - |

Damn!
I'd do her, and I'm not even a lesbian!
Those eyes................

I'm sure you can do him in january when they release the new character creation. And those eyes are way to small to be cute.
Lol, I was about to make the same note on that pic myself, but someone beat me to it.
The women still look like men, it seems. Hence, I am still kind of disappointed, though we'll see once I get my hands on it....
If you think that looks manly then i guess there is no men where you live O_o

Perhaps they're used to anime girls with eyes the size of half your face? ________________* - If you're in favour of a bloodline change please vote in the Assembly Hall in this thread - |

For example, my Khanid character, whose baby-face makes her look like a pre-teen, but she's totally a grown woman.

very strong resemblance! Great Job.
It annoys me that CCP only worked hard on achura. They also gave female avatars more polish and variety.

Edited by: Lucius Vindictus on 29/12/2010 04:08:00 I'm impressed! I've seen a lot of very good and unique looking characters created by only a hand full of people here. Right now with the old system every bloodline has only about 3-4 typical boring "formats" that everyone uses, and every face looks more or less the same. But with this new system we're going to see a lot more variety.

This has to be the best attempt I've seen in recreating an existing portrait up till now. Really nice job!

That's different for each bloodline though, Amarr/Amarr females look like they're around 30. Khanids do indeed have that teen look, though.

I agree, Caldari females are the best looking thus far. It¦s also a matter of taste of course.

Here's a quick version of my character I made about a week ago, I think. I'm really missing the Intaki face paint.

Again the creator is much improved. I'm starting to believe it might be on time to be released sometime in January. Still some ways to go. The character is more "lively" in the latest iteration of the creator and this makes modeling a bit harder as character moves just as you're trying to get the small detail to somewhat where you want it.
My first impression of this tool was WOW, but after 2-3 hours I am not sure what to say. First, I am tied to race, bloodline and sex - which makes the look limited just by itself. Also, so far there is only one selection possible for long hair for the male, and its rasta style! The rest of the hairstyles are simply short, short short in variations from bald, almost shaved to fashion short of different kinds.
I am impressed by the tool - but not by the available selection!
I think its time that CCP allow us full character remake! That mean race, bloodline and sex! Because this time the charcter will have impact on the game, with the coming of Incarna! After 5 years in EVE I am very tied to my current character, and I will be very unhappy having a character appearance that I cant vouch for..

I'm sure the least of our worries is the lack of customization currently available. Each and every art asset is not that important to reveal at this stage of prototyping the creator. I'm more worried being locked to certain race/bloodline and being in the mercy of what the Devs seem appropriate for each architype.
I created my character in the belief that the backstory and the initial attributes had some effect on playstyle. If I had known they basicly meant nothing that would restrict/benefit you ingame, I probably would have chosen a different race altogether. I'm not very happy with the current "Carbon" Intaki model, quite strong characteristics that do not fit of an ideal I have in mind. Then again I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to change their current character race/bloodline/gender/name... re-rolling is not an option as it would take too many years to reach where my main character has evolved. |

My first impression was WOW! it's so realistic. Then I played with all races (since first built) and still think after a new 2h in it, it's too realistic. We are loosing the S-F fun. If it's stays as it is, we will all look like teens in a high school with some teachers around (with aging).
I hope you'll keep fantasy in EVE. As it is right now, I feel we are in a S-F drama like Battlestar or so. Hair, clothing, they are all similar and too realistic. I like my toons being out of trends in RL. Why you now try to match RL trends?
Where are the crazy clothes, tattoos (decorations) and haircuts of my Matar, Gallente and Khanid toons?
On a side line, what are those tiny shoulders for ladies? Why isn't it possible to have shoulders larger or equal to hips?
Good job CCP but bring some fantasy back in...

Probably the same reason why the characters are of the same height, head size/shape being the same (everything above eyebrow level) , torso/legs proportions being locked... it's easier to make accessories when the base stays the same. |

Imho you can make them 'massive' if you're into that. Personally I had a look how big they can get and scaled them back to about 20% of that. Don't want my avatar to develop spinal problems or getting stalked on Jita 4-4 support Public Idea Tracker | 24hr PLEX |
