Edited by: Hauling Hal on 22/12/2010 00:58:51 A lot of people say a lot of things would 'improve Eve', but they're wrong.
Quite often, but not always, players trying to shape a game to their view end up destroying the very game they are trying to improve. Fortunately, Eve has a pretty vocal player base who will stand up and yell when people, and/or CCP, come up with ideas that won't shape the game in a suitable manner. (Note, yelling isn't the same as being listened to, though).
Eve is all about risk. If you add Arenas, or anything similar that enforces balanced teams, not only would it remove/reduce the element of risk, it would also be another thing that one group would work out how to exploit within the game mechanics and all the other players that actually asked for it would then moan and whine on the forums how unfair it is....

then they are playing the wrong game.
My exact thoughts after reading the first sentence.
I respect the opinions of others and as usual, if the majority asks for it, it may happen.
For me, WoW was a great and amazing game all the way up till instanced PVP. I played on Skullcrusher on both sides of the factions and enjoyed much pvp and gankage every day I played. The day Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley were introduced became the day I spent more time spinning my character in place. The only other MMO I have played since then BESIDES Eve was Warhammer Online, which was GREAT because the entire game was practically all PVP. It died out fairly fast and for certain obvious reasons.
I personally hope instanced pvp, or protected PVP, whatever you wish to call it, is kept to the Alliance Tournaments and various other CCP held events. I hope it never makes its way into the game, ever. I am willing to work hard to find targets to kill or gank, and the rewards for those kills is worth the time IMO. If you want instant pvp, I would personally suggest every other MMO other there, besides maybe Ultima Online hehe.

Well imo there's big differences between world pvp in EVE compared to wow. In EVE it's much harder to find people, you can only catch people at gates, stations, roid belts or in missions where in wow the people are spread out among the whole map (system).
You don't have to choose between fits in wow, there is/was no huge difference between pvp vs pve setup. Also people can't warp in within seconds from the other side on the map to spoil your fun. You don't get standings penalties. There's no gate guns or need to camp gates at all.
It all made world pvp a great lot easier compared to EVE.

Sounds like something you could make alot of money from,
Find a 0.0 right next to a highsec. Talk to the 0.0 locals Come to some kind of agreement where you cut them in or kick them out Organise teams and take bets in highsec Everyone (participants/spectators) goes one jump to a planet in 0.0 Only those fighting participate otherwise all bets are off and the house keeps the monies

I think an areana with a league would be a nice idea.
Pilots could get fame through being the number one Arena Pilot.
It would be nice to have a limiting force ie rules for PVP so Frigs only no cloacks ect making it more about pilot skill rather than nlobing power.
having a betting ring around it would also be a great.
I really like the idea of roman gladiator style fights.

People don't want to admit that the alliance tournaments are instanced and everyone loves hypocracy. As someone who has organised 500+ tournaments with people from different corps and alliances I can say that this would be a useful tool. While 1 vs 1 matches are quite easy to manage, when you start having all on all brawls and team events flipping cans just doesn't do it.
wait. nvm.

Why not implement both?
Meaning have them player run, and trained, but with actual coded rules in place. So a corp builds the arena charges for it, however it's open to more people (assuming they can get to the station) and you dont have to worry about griefing or whats allowed not allowed rules as that where CCP steps in. EG: No need to flip a can ship restrictions are in place and enforced by the game.
Just a thought.
I will agree instances have to be implemented very carefully or you just have another FPS on your hands.

Name them all then, and we are talking about arena, not crappy mini games.
