Edited by: hired goon on 22/12/2010 18:01:00 As Eve's 14th expansion, 'Incursion', is slowly drip-fed to a quasi-excited community like Vitoc to an under-aged Minmatar slaveboy, perhaps it is time to look back at what has passed, how Eve has changed, and when for you the most exciting period was. Some expansions have been well received, others less so, but are Eve's "good" expansions a universally agreed upon thing, or is it all highly subjective?
Which of the expansions was your personal favourite, and why?
For me it would have to be Apocrypha. I loved (and still love) everything about it - the mystery of the Sleepers, the strange new wormholes, the new small-group forced oriented gameplay, and of course the banishment of local. Even the login screen had great music that I miss sorely.
What about you?

Apocrypha, for the same reasons as you. Also because I still use the features introduced every day - WHs.
Apocrypha had POLISH that the others lacked.
I was very sad to find out later that probably the only reason it was so great was that they put an absurd # of developers and teams together to do it. A number that probably will not be repeated now that CCP has other games to worry about.

The castor patch.
Times were tough for the average joe, that one, two battleships you had were going down fast and hard with 40-50 missiles crawling up the tailpipe.
Big buffing those npc's with their spawn right at you 10km every few minutes made mining the resources to replace them virtualy imposable on any sort of scale.
Back when eve truely was cruel and harsh on you ______ Your signature was a freakishly huge image and needed to be nerfed. I wish it better luck in its next incarnation. Shadow. |

Apocrypha: wormholes + t3. Trinity: hictors, rorquals, EAFs. CCP's developers are always running around like chickens with their heads cut off, trying to invent reasons to alter the game. Factional warfare. Sansha incursions. And yet the only thing we all really want is more content. Everyone's favorite expansions are the ones where they add new space, new NPC enemies and loots, and new ships.

Incursion (assuming everything runs smooth) BECAUSE it is the first expansion that hasnt been deployed half finished (despite the bugs), splitting the expansion into three parts was a great idea imo. It has changes that have been requested by players for years and there is a new thing introduced that encouraged team work, death and destruction.
Worst expansion was Dominion, CCP managed to make 0.0 worse than it was, I really hope the next expansion focuses on nullsec & lowsec while targeting botters, this isnÆt about supercap lameage but about the general timers and ******ed mechanics of claiming sov

1st patch after Castor expansion is my all time favorite!
Castor itself was horrible, lost my first BS (mined kernite for a month+ to aford it)to a bunch of frigs in 0.0 but once the 1st patch afterwards was out things got much better. So all in all Castor is top but everyone going online after that wont get how hardcore it was back then. --------------------------------------------------

I came in to the game on January 20th of 2006. So I was there for RmR almost from the start of that patch. I have enjoyed everything since then except the coil of steaming mess called Trinity. I quit the game for a year with that abortion.

Although I had seen EVE before, Empyrean Age was the first edition I ever actually played. I still remember the theme song and login screen. Fantastic stuff.
Apocrypha was very exciting too. It's execution was great with all the fiction that was slowly released during the downtime until release. ---

I came in with Castor.
The time there was no mining barge, battleships were flown by a few gods and everyone kept a weary eye on for fear of losing the Caracal we ninja mined for 2 days to build. A Badger load of ore being popped by a rat then was about like losing a carrier today, not overly hard to replace but no less annoying or time consuming. Built my first battleship (Tempest) by ninja mining with friends.
Then came Exodus. Exodus was the patch I recall and loved the most. It brought PvP to the masses.
Lost my battleship to Supertwinkey69 while fighting in Jita after Exodus introduced the best PvP gaming in EVE history(prior to WTZ).Battlecruisers became the standard for every pilot too poor to buy a battleship and the sudden spike of HAC prices from 50 mil to 250 mil(pre-invention) left us all laughing at the poor fools who got ganked while flying them.

Hard call, RMR was good because I'd just started playing, it's more a nostalgia thing than anything else.
Emperian age rocked, FW is one of the best things to ever happen to eve.
Incursion is however shaping up to be a major contender, for a start THEY FIXED ROCKETS!!!!!!!! The learning SP refund was ace and having looked at some of the incursion stuff on SISI I think they're on to a winner.

I started playing during Empyrean Age, so Quantum was my first expansion and holds a nostalgic place in my heart. Apocrypha was a very good one, but I think Incursion is shaping up to be a truly great one so far. Between the Noctis and the removal and subsequent reimbursement of learning skills, as well as the fixing of rockets, Incursion has exceeded my expectations for any expansion thus far.

Agreeing with this.
Ah shuddup you two. No inbuilt warp to zero was amongst the stupidest design ideas CCP ever had. Some brilliant arguing that it made the universe "bigger" or something clever like that.
Whichever expansion removed that gets my vote, or the one that dropped these moronic red exclamation marks and introduced the current overview.
