Hi, I'm on vacation in a third world country and the internet here sucks. I don't want to PvP because it might be bad if I disconnect in the middle of a fight or lag.
Besides the tutorial missions and a little bit of level 3s in a drake I've not done PVE much at all..
First question.. What is the best way to grind money at the moment? I remember it used to be incursions a couple months ago. Is that still true?
I dropped corp into an npc corp and I can fly anything up to tech II fitted minn battleships. What is the best path for me to go and what will I need?
If you have any questions please ask, thanks guys. |

dude your on vacation, go outside, find a girl, get drunk in a bar and start a fight....uh well that might get you shot/stabbed/raped depending on the country so maybe not. Point is, find something else to do besides EVE, everyone needs a break now and then so queue up a long skill and push back from the keyboard.
If you must however, know that a bad connection can be just as bad doing pve as it can doing pvp. Whatever ship you use, I would over tank it a bit just in case your connection does drop. Drake running missions is a good choice, cheap ship that easy to tank so if it gets blown up it's no real big loss. |

Trust me, alot of the stuff you just told me to do could get me sent to jail. Or worse.
EvE is by far one of the most fun things to do in this country. |

As Klymer said, enjoy your vacation!
But if you just have to play EVE... As he also said, a disconnect in PVE can be almost as bad as a disconnect in PVP sometimes. If you're doing L4s or Incursions, and get scrammed, and disconnected, you will probably loose your ship. (Ask me how I know.) I've lost a few expensive PVE battleships to a bad connection. With that info, I would over-tank whatever you're using, and use something cheap-ish. Maybe a Dominix or Malestrom or something. I def wouldn't use a T3 or Marauder (sp?). Also use cheaper T1 drones. Loosing a flight of 5 T2 Hammerheads will cost you about 2.5m+, which will cut-down on profits a lot. (Again ask me how I know.)
As for the basics, figure-out what part of space you will be missioning in. What are the primary pirates there? In Gallente space it's mostly Serpentis for example. Figure out what dmg types those rats are weak against. For Serpentis it's Kin/Therm. What dmg type do they deal? Serp is Kin/Therm. So if fighting Serp, use a ship that does good Kin/Therm dmg and has good Kin/Therm resists. This is most Gallente ships. I like a Hyperion or Vindicator vs Serpentis. (Stay away from the Vindi though cause if you loose it to a disconnect it will cost you. ) If you're fighting Rats in Amarr ships, you will want EM/Therm resists and DMG which is usually an Amarr ship.
So in a nut-shell, (oversimplified) use the same ship that your targets are using for best results. Look-up fittings for those ships and go to town. Obviously if you have way better skills for a certain T2 gun or whatever, you will have better results with a ship that your skills support better. |

Incursion is by far the most lucrative thing to do for a combat ready pilot.
It varies among other activities based on what you commit for time/money. Trading can be better, but you'd have to have a lot of capital and a lot of time. |

Oh! I almost forgot.
google: "eve survival" that site will tell you every detail about every mission BEFORE you go-into it. Also google: "chruker" that site tells you every detail about all the rats in each mission.
Those two sites are worth their weight in gold (how much does a site weigh anyway?).
Then there's Incursions, don't know much about those so maybe someone else can help you out there... |

Edit: I'm training subsystem skills for tengu atm.
Personally when I do PvE and I am semi distracted, I run L4 missions and have an alt tail behind in a noctis. If you can fit a T2 Maelstrom you are good to go, a vargur or mach would be even better, but of course the cost goes up exponentially. I am not a fan of tengus in missions, I have tried it, I find I kill stuff much faster in my vargur and guns are a lot more fun than missles ;), of course your mileage may vary.
If you have a decent fit, most of the missions won't give you too much trouble to the point where a lag spike will kill you, just remember to read up on eve-survival before going in, and if it is an especially tougher mission, just pass on it. |

This is great advice, thank you so far guys.
I think I could go with the mael, it is decently priced. I'll try some caldari missions since it is close to where I live.
Those website links are also great, thank you.
The one guy that suggested incursion, I would do those but I don't think the web here can handle the voice comms needed for a good incursion fleet.
Besides level 4s are there anything else one can do for money? Like are any of the epic arcs worth doing? Or what about plexes?
Thanks alot so far guys, great advice. |

I have done the Gallente Epic Arc and without salvaging, it netted somewhere around 200m.
You might consider doing some trading too. You can make an OK amount of ISK doing that if you have decent capital to start with.
As myself and others have mentioned, check Chruker and/or Eve Survival before accepting any L4 missions. There are actually quite a few L4s that you can do that don't have any scramming rats. They're not the best-paying ones, but it would be a lot safer in-case of a disconnect. Worst-case scenario, you get disconnected, EVE automatically gives your ship the command to warp-out, if you have lights (drones) deployed they usually have enough time to make-it back before you go. If you have mediums or heavies, they will usually get left unless they happen to be really close to you (Which is why I recomend not using T2 drones if you have a shoddy connection.)
By bad connection is it just slow (lots of lag) or do you get dropped frequently? |

It actually isn't that terrible, I just had a single DC today and I just assumed that the connection would be bad. I'm still not going to risk a mach or tengu over it.
There isn't alot of lag, but player show infos do take like 2 seconds longer to load than before. I guess the best thing I can do is go with an overtanked mael... I already have a pvp fit one lying around somewhere. :) |

In missions, I'd say laggy connection is more dangerous than one that just drops you once in a while (as long as you stay away from missions with scrammers in them). If you get disconnected, usually your ship will start to warp right away, but if you have lots of lag, you will probably just stay in the pocket getting pounded while you try to figure-out if you activated that shield booster or not, or if your guns are done with their current cycle and can fire on the next rat, etc...
I dunno, I usually don't have much lag, but when I do, it's just super frustrating, and can cause me to make mistakes. Where-as disconnects aren't so bad as long as I'm not scrammed or in low armor without the repper running or something.
I think you should be good! Have fun! It is a little safer with a friend (I/E someone to kill the rats while your incopasitated). Look me-up in game if you want someone to run missions with you. I usually mission in the Dodixie area. |

Incursions suck now unless you reach ISN minimum standards and know how/when to get into fleets.
TVP incursions are a joke.
Public fleets even more-so.
Wormhole PvE is great but so complicated.
L4 missions are awesome but are also complicated as you have to invest time in learning and setting up a blitzing system and a high dps ship (none of that massive tank missile drone bullshit)
Mining sucks but a monkey could do it.
Taking a cloaky T3 deep into null and then running anoms and lofficers is knowledge intensive but pretty decent isk.
UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
That's about it, I don't think trade and production count as PvE as opposed to "indy", and even if they did SNOOOOOOORRRRRREEEEFFFFFEEEEEESSSSSTTTT
Given your current circumstances, buy a bad-ass L4 missions ship and blitz a bunch of L4s, calculate the best way for you to LP -> Isk and go with that... Anything more lucrative is going to take more "set up" time then you'll be on vacation. |

Missions are good in your case, L4 missions.
The ship: You want a solid tank and be cap stable. The latter is real important as it means your ship can sit in the mission forever as you deal with any connection issue. You want to be able to just turn on the tank as you warp into the mission and let it run without having to cycle any tank related module.
Drones: Sentries are good because if you get a DC the game will recall them automatically for you as you e-warp. Heavy or medium drones may not make it back before your ship e-warps, so you can lose them (the NPCs can blow them up while you are gone). A ship that mainly uses guns + light drones would work well in your case too, as the light drones are fast enough to get back.
I'd stay away from incursions if you got connection issues. Its a group activity and needs good comms.
The other high sec activity to look at is Exploration. You can reconnect to probes if you get a DC, so as to not lose them. A Swiss army knife fit T3 works, as it can have a probe launcher, a salvager, a code breaker, an analyzer, and sufficient DPS and tank to do all mag, radar and combat sites in high sec (with the exception of the low end combat sites that will not let you through the gate). http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Admittedly, since you're not in it for the L4 isk and more for something to do, I agree cap stability is fine, if you want to do it. However, I personally, even under these circumstances, would just aim at having a steady tank that can last for 5-10 minutes. Once you disconnect, you leave grid after a minute or two assuming you have not recently received player aggression. Usually, cap stable fits hurt your damage output quite a bit, and in my own experience I have found that to be at least equally as dangerous as not having enough tank. "Tanking" by simply reducing incoming damage is equally as legitimate of an option and it is more fun / better ISK. |

I got some kinda cheapish cap-stable Tengu with two small shield boosters and an afterburner.
All my lows are filled with ballistics, the missions are pretty good and easy so far... The ship works wonders. I haven't met a mission I can't do yet... But it obviously lacks a bit in the DPS department.
