There really should be a 'save' option for avatar creation, the simple fact that many players have alts and additional accounts compounded with the complexity of the avatar creation system not permitting us a grace period to skip remaking ourselves would have been pure madness.
Having content that won't be complete, especially with things that are to be added later, ie Tattoos demands a new 'portrait/pose' free when those are added and possibly options to remake the avatar if new content is added(cybernetic implants) that wasn't available at the time of release. For example if 6 months after the new avatar system is put online you dump some previously WIP features or ADD more hair/clothes/options NEW characters can choose at creation we should all get to either redo our avatars or maybe be able to add those features/options not present to our characters. The case being if X, Y, and Z are added then we should gain the ability to choose the current option, no change, or X, Y, Z. I tend to think allowing a 'redo' of a character is simpler since depending on what these additions are one might go a different route with a character when presented with certain options or when denied them.
Another feature you should seriously have considered, if it isn't too late, is the somewhat asked for option to export an avatar's 'settings' so that someone could design one for another person then send/copy/feed them the settings so they wouldn't have to do it themselves. Perhaps that is something you are only looking at for the 'plastic surgeon' system but some thought should have been put into making that available to people who wanted it when you're releasing this thing on us so we can look how we'll look when our avatar actually matter some 6 months away from now, *crosses fingers*.
