Hi everyone, I am currently working on a script for TS3 and I need some help with a few things.
First off, I haven't decided whether to use the server query directly (have to be logged in) or privilege keys.
Now here's my issue; There's a lot of working API registration for TS3 stuff out there but I need this specific, once registered and privilege key is active, you can't change your nickname without losing your privileges.
Now how I thought about doing this off the bet is like this:
Once registered privilege key, nickname etc. is saved into a database alongside clientID. If these 3 things for some reason doesn't match (nickname changed) the server shall remove all privileges, this will be from a cronjob of some sort that runs every 5th minute.
Is this possible? and could someone perhaps set me off?
Thanks in advance
/Vent

Edited by: Kamikazie on 26/12/2010 00:57:34 Its possible
$userTable = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM users;"); $userRows = mysql_num_rows($userTable); $t=0; while ($t<$userRows){ $username $CID $pKey
//insert code to look for the user on TS3 if not logged in move on to next
if($username!=$connUsername&&$CID!=$connCID&&$pKey!=connPKey){
//unregister them }
//else they all match and do nothing. }

Your idea is against TS3 intended mechanics. The user identity is not bound to his or her nickname, and is clearly visible as well at the same time as nickname. Changing identity is what breaking privileges. Changing nickname is merely a convenient way to tell other conversation participants, with which character you've logged into game right now. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

True, but it makes it too easy to pretend you are someone on TS that you are not, which is the reason I am doing this.

This is a social issue, that should be dealt by social means, rather than technical.

There's a setting on forums, called "Signature", which is specifically designed for this kind of crap. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Enforced names can be easily policed by a bot, as for your permissions assignment its better to use privilege keys and custominfo to link your system to TS3.
For example our system provides the EVE Character ID, API User ID and SSO ID (our access management system) as part of the custom info, that way external scripts can reference this easily when doing any other management functions.
