Hi there. We are a small corp recently moved into a C2 wormhole, and are planning our defense strategy against aggressors anchoring their own POS. We have 2 cap ship pilots, and 3 other BS pilots, and one logi pilot.
In your opinion how effective would this fleet be in taking down an enemy large death star POS.
1. 1x Revelation 2. 1x Archon 3. 1x Abbadon 4. 2x Torp Raven (or 1x Torp Raven, 1x Guardian Logistics)
Assuming an equal number of defenders vs. attackers.

Why would you be attacked by only 6 people if they can't bring in/build a cap ship to attack your pos? |

If the enemy Pos has any ECM at all you are not going to do much with so few ships on grid. POS ECM has quiet high strength.
Fighting at their Pos with equal numbers, especially at such low totals numbers, you¦re very likely to lose to any halfway competent force.

I was under the impression that cap ships are immune to EW in siege mode. I said assume equal numbers because we can hire mercs if we need to for support. I am mainly interested in the viability of a dread/carrier combo putting a large POS into reinforced. Is it worth the cost and effort?

Still, how much stront can you keep it topped up with at their pos, and what about pos & player neuts?
IMHO cap ships owned by a self-confessed small corp in a C2 are probably a few lossmails for anyone who can be arsed. Your defence is them not being arsed, so hide the caps & how you got them and try not to show/lose too many shiny ships that may be in the hangers as reward for a siege effort.
Depending on moon count and planet PI, perhaps spend the cap ship build costs on minimal towers, fully stronted, to claim all moons?
Also, if you're small, controlling the static to even get mercs in (which will probably only be once you're main pos is already reinforced) is going to be interesting. |

C2s aren't worth protecting in the first place, find a deeper hole to colonize, you'll make more money.
Plus there's the fact that C2s generally have empire entrances, which means every fifth asshole to drop a scan-probe will find your system.

I'd actually be more worried about maintaining Corp morale and fueling the POS. As long as it's stronted and you have a carrier, you should be gold. Depending on how many moons you have just anchor small Caldari towers at each one. Even offlined they present a time-waster for any invasion force.
I would suggest you start thinking like an invasion force would. 1. What corp is here, how many members, when do they play, what do they fly? 2. Which type, size and defenses of their main POS? 3. Is this a valuable enough WH and worth the effort of invading?
Your best defense is a well-armed shield-hardened large tower with plenty of fuel and fully stronted. It's even better if it is a faction tower with increased shields and lower fuel consumption. There are enough inexperienced WHers that put up small towers to keep any wannabe invaders happily busy. Shooting towers is boring work, so I doubt someone will invade if you use a large tower. I'd more worried with raiders and pvpers. Learn to control your exits and keep your WH clean. A WH with few or no anomalies will cause people to pass you over. When you do run anomalies, you should use a scout. I'd also familiarize yourself with timezone warfare. Because if you play during US prime time, I'm going to attack you during EU prime time. POS gunners, if you don't understand, then you've never seen how easy it is to take out most POS defenses without them.
Fly safe and let us know if you have any more questions.

Edited by: Seras Athran on 27/12/2010 12:08:22 We tried it recently. It's an exercise in futility with only one Dreadnought, and for that reason alone it isn't worth your time.

Thye are, but they also cannot be remote repaired. Any decent POS gunner will turn the neuts onto the Dread to kill its local tank and then it's all over. Sieged Dread + no cap = very large wreck.

You may as well just use a ****load of BS if you only have one dread, its not worth the intiatal outlay tbh, especially in a C2, as 6 people in there will get bored very soon.

Edited by: EdTeach on 28/12/2010 14:47:28 C2 is a training-wheels system. You will be attacked from all sorts of Kspacers, but no cap ships from that end, due to wormhole size limitations into C2s from Kspace.
You may see a cap from a high-end Wspace system from one of your other wormholes, but Wspacers don't usually want anything to do with a C2.
If an enemy goes to the trouble of setting up a POS in your C2 and they have numbers on you ... pack up and leave while you can.
As stated above... small full stront POSs on every moon if possible gives you time to decide on courses of action at the very least.
Most hisec/C2 wormholes can be closed in 8(IIRC) round trips of a single fully-plated Megathron. Mass kills wormholes. 1600mm Plates are massive. Use a calculator and do some math and send a gang of battleships through and back.
With your numbers it will be about wormhole access control more than anything else. Your C2 is not worth the trouble for most unless you look like easy pickings.
Make a large Deathstar and have POS gunners ready. The "Puffer Fish" defense works fairly well for C2.
----
edit - Personally, I would build a Rorq if I went to the trouble of building a Capship in a C2. It helps you mine and reps your POS and POS guns. Orca will just barely squeeze through a C2/hisec wormhole for hauling too. Increases resale value of the system as well, since the Rorq is there to stay.

What holes lead into a c2 that can take a cap ship? Or did you mean if you go wandering beyond your system you might see capships? Because I don't think anyone can bring one in no matter what class/k-space they start from. |

I believe you may be correct Daneel. I was thinking that a possible non-static to a high-end Wspace system may connect to a C2 with a wormhole of capship size.
The point is, your chances of seeing a Cap in C2 that you didn't build there are almost nil.
