Greetings:
Given an AC-fit, default nano, hurricane using 425MM AC II along with 2 medium neuts, what tactics can a vagabond pilot use to take out the hurricane? Or is that just an insane thought? i.e. if solo, flee?
Thank you.

You're faster, a lot more agile and have greater range. Think about that for a bit.

Edited by: Omara Otawan on 27/12/2010 06:35:55 The usual tactic would be to run away before you realize the Hurricane can sustain its MWD for a lot longer than your Vagabond can.
While the Vagabond could try to hang out at around 28km if it has a faction point, its dps output is pretty low at that range, its not really possible to chew through the Canes EHP before the juice runs out even when carefully micromanaging the MWD.
That is assuming an old-school nano Cane, which is rather uncommon these days. The standard shield Cane will rip the Vaga a new one no matter what.

Edited by: Brian Ballsack on 27/12/2010 14:13:18 As someone else said, if its the passive shield cane, you have no chance, if its the nanocane as you say , you might have a chance at 25-30km providing you have a point at that range and you dont get into his web range. so get at the max range you can do decent damage and get a point at, if you cant do either, get webbed or start to melt, gtfo its not really a fight i would get into personally, not great odds.

Hey, I haven't even responded yet!
A: Fit one TD?
If your question is how to combat a default nano-fit Cane with a default nano-fit Vaga, then you got a problem obviously. I think I'll have a couple of other non-default solutions. ____

In a belt or on-gate/station?
In a belt then the vaga has a decent chance. Depends on how much ammo the vaga has and how many TE2's the cane has.
On-gate/station then don't bother, assuming a DCU2 then the cane can de-agress and jump before the vaga can kill it.
YMMV.

Either use some ******ed fit to specifically counter a nano cane or you can run away.
Basically the same way a AF will run away from a Dessie a lot of the time.

625 DPS is at what range? Point blank? Then leave your nanos at home... go in close and brawl with the Hurricane.

Standard method is to bring 3+ vaga's. You will lose the gank/tank fight horribly 1v1 at any range you can point them (assuming no faction gear).
Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

It's a bad choice to engage it solo unless you have reason to believe he's armor fit. If he IS armor fit don't get near.
Even kiting with barrage he might have enough range to force you off field first. Killing his drones helps. Getting lucky ec-300 jams helps.

You only needs speed if you want to stay at range and your enemy wants to go closer or vice versa.
If the enemy wants to come closer (which a Cane does when facing a Vaga) than you only need enough speed to make sure he doesn't escape once caught. Hence such a Vaga doesn't need a prop mod. 2x Large Extender, overloaded Invuln II (should last more than 2 minutes overheated easily) and a scram.
The Vaga is faster without MWD then the Cane is without MWD. Hence, once the Cane gets into scram range, it can't get away anymore. Losing the MWD is also good for your cap when the Cane starts to neut you.
And yes, 625 dps at 3km or so. But as said, in this case the hostile wants to come close because he thinks he's superior and wants to prevent you from escaping.
Works good in docking game situations too.

I don't believe you. Or rather, I don't believe you're running around PvPing in a Vaga with over 200M worth of gyrostabs on it and making a habit of hullbumping Hurricanes.

I believe it is the HAM that might have thrown you off. But if you're fighting a Cane (or any station gank like situation), your better off with extra dps than a neut or something. Thinking out of the box and all. ____

And then what?
First you'll be grey with old age by the time you break the passive shield tank, second, the Vaga wouldn't engage you, jumping or docking at its leisure.
It's EVE, people don't engage just because they can, but because they think they have something to win.
And if you are flying a Dramiel, you might have noticed that very few people flying around solo will engage you.

You have never flown a Vaga, your argument is invalid.

Holy mother of god I missed this post.
Nano canes don't fight in scram range. You do not understand WTF nano is do you? Also, Nano cane has 2x med neuts and 2x more cap than you. Also, Nano cane has the same EHP as you.
Wait, I've been trolled. Damn you got me good son.

if i catch that vaga away from a gate/station it's dead in under 3 minutes. Otherwise i'll just tell the gang i scrammed the vaga. Either way all i need is to catch it (which is easy since that fit has no neuts)

A cookie-cutter shield cane (LSE, DC II, heated invuln, 1x anti-em, 2x CDFE) has both more EHP and more point-blank DPS than your vaga. Moreover, even if you could count on having an EHP-DPS advantage, your vaga has 1328 GJ cap total. A pair of medium neuts drains 360 cap every 12 seconds - you'll be capped out with no scram and no invuln long before the cane goes down. I like using weird setups to get kills that "shouldn't" happen, but if that's what your aiming for, you want to be flying something cheap and lulzy and engaging expensive ships, not the other way around. Fair enough that does come to something above 600 DPS (in EFT). What threw me off is the fact that with a full rack of 425s overheated and 3x RF gyros, DPS also comes out to 625.
And either way, you aren't hullbumping Hurricanes to apply that DPS. There aren't many Cane setups with less DPS than you and even fewer with less EHP.
