Eve is people. If Eve is boring it's a reflection of what your doing and possibly who your doing it with.

I think you all completely missed what the OP was trying to get across. He wasn't saying EvE was boring or not fun. He was stating that in the past couple years nothing has really been added thats spiced things up. Off the top of my head I can really only think of 2 things that have been added that really changed New Eden. One being Wormholes and the other is the addition of exploration almost 3 years ago. Everything else PI, new ships, hell even FW never really changed the actual FEEL of Eve.
There have been no new factions added, no new space added(since Black Rise and Drone Regions was added how many years ago?). No real change in mining, missions, or manufacturing. The UI has been the same as it has been other then minor tweaks.
I don't really see this as a EvE is dying troll attempt by the OP but a realization that even with all the random crap CCP adds it really doesn't change or add to Eve as a whole.

So what OP is asking for is some sort of random (unpredictable) content which hits random areas and attacks pilots. Also dirt in space - maybe some sort of spiked flying turd would suffice.
If onle CCP was planning to release something like that...

You might be happier there... random battles without consequence seems to be your cup of tea.
KB entry = consequence?
No, it does not (generally speaking).
However, that has nothing to do with the point I made.
If the only thing your actions is this game produce are meaningless KB entries you haven't really gotten to the meat of the game yet.

Sure, why not?
If you're not fitting the medium hybrids the Phobos gives bonuses to (and why on earth would you fit medium hybrids ł bonuses or not?), and certainly if you go for off-size weapons, you might as well go for the ones that actually worką
Pretty much. When I got RR support I fit two 1600 plates. When you're flying a Hic you're not in it for the DPS.
Choices are: A full rack of Dual 150mm LOLerail. Which actually have a shorter optimum range then the pulses
Not enough grid to fit a full rack of Electron Blasters. Which were at bump range anyway.
So that leaves frig guns. And I like the pew pew. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Eve is an order of magnitude less predictable than most other MMOs.
Yes, I find eve fairly boring, but imo that's because of an outdated combat system and copy/paste solar systems and gameplay mechanics.
The base of eve-online is extremely dynamic, with player controlled systems and a single shard, but there is tons of boring game design on top of it. You can't expect too much from 6 month development cycles though.

Edited by: Zendoren on 30/12/2010 02:58:41 I kinda agree with OP; however, he does not have the whole story. Personally I think The Mittani had it right with his Choice Paralysis hypothesis.
As for the OP's idea, Making things random does give you the feel that there is a lot more depth to the game than there is and keeps people interested longer.

You apparently never saw Star Trek: Voyager's "Year of Hell" or Star Trek: DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight." The former is the dirtiest set I've ever seen in Star Trek (a completely trashed Voyager set depicting accumulated battle damage from one year? win!), and who could honestly expect the heroic, picture-boy-perfect, always-goes-by-the-book, always-quotes-the-regulations Starfleet captain to commission an assassination in the latter episode?

Well I was rather surprised when TOS was re-aired in TV and it had episodes "kirk at the planet of gansters" "kirk at the planet of ****s" and " kirk at the planet of amazons" and in each of them (or hell in about every episode) kirk helps himself some (alien?)cookie.

Afraid I have to disagree, in some ways anyway.
As far as the political landscape there isn't anything unpredictable happening primarily because the major entities have survived the trials of fire and tribulation. Today the remaining power blocs are in place simply because they are the ones that have remained. Epic player generated storyline like the Tortugan Betraayal, or Eve War I are difficult to become commonplace due to the years of relationship building it took to make those moments as epic as they were.
In regards to the PVE Element of eve, the biggest problem with any kind of surprise or being caught unaware are negating primarily due to everyone having an understanding of every pve site, mission and npc group.
In Small scale PVP there is still a lot of surprise and epic fights. Especially when fighting entities that may be red but have your respect. In Stain we commonly fight corps/alliances that are both great and terrible. But there are plenty of surprises to be had.
Large Scale Fleet PVP has grown quite stale since "large scale" could be used to describe it. Combinations of heavy lag, and near stalemate conflict has dragged entertainment value out of sov warfare. But innovations from entities like PL keep things at least somewhat interesting. Hellcat and AHAC Fleets have shown an excellent plan when lag isn't horrid still rule the day. The Sov warfare game remains a grind not only in terms of structure shooting but also in frustration from lag effects like modules not cycling or grid not loading.
Another big point is that we all learned in the beginning of our Eve careers, losing a ship isn't that big of a deal. So we all fly what we can afford to lose amirite? If you're doing that then at the end of the day when u log off you probably feel like much has been accomplished or lost. Anything you lost was afforded before hand and any damage done to your enemy was most likely also afforded. Except in the case of Supercapital Kills, which have some of the best entertainment value the game can provide.

Jumped with an inferior number into a system with twice as many hostiles waiting for us at the other side.
Lagjump offcourse so odds that we would get picked off easy were on trhe high %
Yet we didn't get shot like fish in a barrel and we even drove the larger group waiting for us off.
Boring? Nah. I just don't make my game mainly dependant on what others offer me but create also my own situations. Makes life more "intersting"
